1. Nigerian Senate on Wednesday adjourned its plenary for two weeks. The lawmakers will resume on November 6. The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, explained that the break would allow committees of the Senate to carry out oversight functions.
2. Two members of the House of Representatives on Wednesday defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to other parties. Speaker, Yakubu Dogara announced the two defections on the floor of the House during Wednesday’s plenary. Musa Soba from Kaduna State defected from the PDP to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while Hassan Omale from Kogi State defected from the APC. He,however, did not announce his new political party.
3. The Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, has condemned plans by the Kaduna State Governor, El-rufai to carry out mass burial of large number of people allegedly killed during the recent mayhem at Kasuwan Magani. Ibrahim Musa, president, media forum of IMN in a statement on Wednesday said the aim was to destroy the evidence of the massive killing. He called on the international community to closely monitor the Mando site where the governor plans to bury the victims.
4. Immediate past Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has been granted bail in the sum of N50 million. His bail application was granted during his second appearance before the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Wednesday.
5. The Benue State Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP ), has approved the constitution of a council for the ORTOM/ABOUNU Governorship Campaign Organization. The campaign team would be led by Terngu Shawon. Also to be part of the re-election team of the governor, are former Senate Presidents, David Mark, Iorchiya Ayu, immediate past Benue governor, Gabriel Suwam and Rt Hon Orker Jev. Others in the team are Hon John Ngbede, Comrade Abba Moro, Hon (Chief ) Margret Ichen, Chief (Mrs) Rebecca Apezan, Chief ( Mrs ) Abeje Egwa, and Dr Joe Nyam.
6. The Senate on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of Dr Bello Ingawa, a retired Federal Permanent Secretary from Katsina State, as Chairman, Federal Civil Service Commission, FCSC. The confirmation, which was through a voice vote, followed the presentation of report of the Committee on Establishment and Public Service by its Chairman, Sen. Emmanuel Paulker at plenary.
7. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, was fabricating spurious publications against its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Peter Obi. The party insisted that it was actually the APC that was releasing statements in the guise of a northern group against Atiku and Obi, adding that its presidential flag bearers have been well-received by Nigerians across board. PDP made the claim in a statement Wednesday by its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan.
8. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) says it is not fully composed members of its Campaign Council for the 2019 presidential election. The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, saying that the party’s attention had been drawn to a phoney post circulating in the social media and purporting that the party had released further names to make up its 2019 Presidential Campaign Council.
9. Ondo state Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has reacted to allegations that he and some governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were plotting to remove the party’s national chairman, Adams Oshiomole. While denying any involvement in an attempt to remove Oshiomhole, Akeredolu, however, accused Oshiomhole of exhibiting incompetence in the handling of the party’s recently concluded primaries across the country.
10. Many persons have been reported killed and several others injured in a communal clash between two communities of Lafiya and Boshikiri in Lamurde and Guyuk Local Government Areas of Adamawa State. It was gathered that the crisis erupted after three vigilantes who responded to a distress call from a farmer were murdered by unidentified persons in a bush, resulting in a reprisal. The crisis was said to have taken a new dimension when both Muslim and Christian places of worship were razed.
