1. The United States has expressed readiness to give visa to former vice president Atiku Abubakar. This disclosure was made Wednesday night by Otunba Gbenga Daniel, DG, Atiku Presidential Campaign Organization (APCO). According to him, the US has asked Atiku to come forward for his visa.
2. The remains of the missing Senior Army officer, Major General Idris Alkali (rtd) has been found by a team of the Nigerian Army on Search and Rescue Operation. This is coming after the officer had been declared missing since September 2018. The remains of the officer was found in an abandoned well in a bush at Guchwet village in Shen Du District of Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
3. Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has dismissed the threat posed by Atiku Abubakar, who is the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). After meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, Tinubu said they were not jittery about the strategy meeting convened by Atiku in Dubai, to unseat Buhari, insisting that Nigerian cannot go back to the illusion of the PDP.
4. The Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) also known as Shi’ites, has declared 1,000 of its members missing, after the clash with security operatives in Abuja. In a statement on Wednesday, the group’s spokesman, Abdullahi Musa, said in addition to the 1,000 missing members, 46 were killed while 107 sustained injuries.
5. Amnesty International has said its investigation shows that the horrific use of excessive force by soldiers and police led to the killing of at least 45 supporters of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) in two days. AI disclosed that its researchers visited five different locations in Abuja and Nasarawa state where wounded IMN supporters were receiving treatment, including two locations where bodies were deposited.
6. The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), under the leadership of its President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa‘ad Abubakar, has expressed sadness over the current crisis in Kaduna State. A statement issued on Wednesday by the Deputy Secretary-general of the Council, Prof. Salisu Shehu, in Abuja said the perennial conflicts was eroding people’s confidence in the government.
7. The Kano State House of Assembly on Wednesday invited Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, to appear before its ad-hoc committee probing videos showing him allegedly taking bribe. Ganduje is expected to appear before the committee on Friday. The Assembly constituted a committee on October 15 to establish the authenticity of the videos.
8. The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, have said that Nigerian Governors were being insincere with N22,500 being proposed as the new minimum wage for workers. The unions described the N22,500 being proposed by the governors as ‘laughable.’
9. The federal government has approved that Usman Yusuf, Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), should proceed on administrative leave immediately. This is to allow an investigative panel carry out its task without interference. Ben Omogo, a director in the office of the head of the civil service of the federation, has been deployed to oversee the affairs of the scheme in Yusuf’s absence.
10. The governorship candidate under the flagship of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the September 22, 2018 election in Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, was on Wednesday arraigned before Justice I. E. Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja. Adeleke, who is an uncle to popular music star, Davido and four others were docked on a four-count charge of examination malpractices filed against them by the Nigeria Police.
