1. Khadija Bukar Abba Ibrahim, Nigeria’s minister of State for Foreign Affairs has resigned her appointment.
Ibrahim resigned position to run for Damaturu/Tarmuwa/Gujba/Gulani federal constituency of Yobe state in the National Assembly.
2. The road from Maiduguri to Damaturu and Damaturu to Potiskum in Borno and Yobe states have been shut down with only troops and heavy fighting equipment plying the road.
Malam Nuhu, state Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, told our reporter that they have no idea about the sudden development that informed the closure of the roads.
3. Chairman, Central Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Women and Youth Presidential Campaign Team, Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd) has said there was no conflict of interest between the team and the Presidential Campaign Council.
Marwa said this on Wednesday in Abuja at a news conference, adding that the clarification had become necessary following speculations that the groups were in conflict.
4. Police in Jigawa State have teargassed members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Gumel Local Government Area for allegedly holding a campaign without police approval.
Members of the Jigawa state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party had gathered in Gumel Local Government to flag off zonal campaign for the 2019 general election when the incident happened.
5. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), will speak on a phone-in radio programme from Israel at about 6pm on Saturday.
Kanu will also talk about the alleged betrayal of the Igbos, caused by the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and the five South-East Governors.
6. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) commenced sale of registration forms, for the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, today, Thursday, January 10, 2019.
Sale of forms will last for six weeks.
7. Senate President Bukola Saraki has alleged that there is massive fraud within the oil sector, with the knowledge of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said the Buhari government’s arbitrary payment of subsidy on assumption that Nigeria consumes fifty million litres (50million litres) of fuel a day, is fraudulent.
8. Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s re-election bid received a significant boost on Wednesday as Town Union Presidents of the 458 autonomous communities in Enugu State unanimously endorsed him for a second term in office for his sterling performance and unusual style of leadership.
The Town Union Presidents gave their support to Gov. Ugwuanyi, when they paid him a solidarity visit at the Government House, Enugu.
9. Following the agreement between Federal Government and lecturers, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has asked the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), to suspend the ongoing strike.
In a statement on Tuesday signed by the NANS president, Comrade Bamidele Akpan, the student body accused the lecturers of not pursuing the interest of Nigerian students.
10. The Nigerian Army says it has repelled attacks from some criminal gangs and militia operating across communities in Nasarawa, Benue and Taraba states, recovering some arms.
Maj. Gen. Adeyemi Yekini, Commander of “Operation Whirl Stroke” in Nasarawa, on Wednesday said his men recovered 45 assorted weapons and 701 rounds of live ammunition from the suspects in Zwere, Toto Local Government Area of the state.
