1. Nigerian Army said troops deployed to fight bandits and other criminal activities in Kaduna state have killed two bandits in their hideout and recovered arms and ammunition in a raid.
A statement released today, Thursday, by Army Acting Director Public Relations, Colonel Sagir Musa indicated that the raid on the bandits’ den was conducted while acting on intelligence report in Chikun local government area of Kaduna State.
2. The Federal Government, on Wednesday, filed a Notice of Appeal, challenging the decision of a Federal High Court Lagos, which dismissed a debt recovery suit it filed against Nigeria Agip Oil Company Ltd, and Brasoil Services Company Nigeria Ltd over undeclared oil shipment.
FG through its counsel, Prof. Fabian Ajogwu, SAN, had filed the suit in 2016, seeking to recover almost 12 billion dollars in missing crude oil revenue from some International Oil Companies.
3. The Nigerian Senate has decried increasing cases of alleged herdsmen attacks on farming communities across the country, leading to loss of lives and property.
The Upper Chamber further urged the Federal Government to curtail movement of cattle in the country as a way of checkmating criminals who disguised as herdsmen to perpetrate evil.
4. The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, Wednesday, commenced hearing in the petitions filed by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, his party and three other political parties challenging the declaration of President Muhammadu Buhari as winner of the 2019 presidential poll.
Chairman of the five-member panel, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, specifically warned counsel and parties in the various petitions to avoid discussing daily proceedings of the tribunal in the media and other public space.
5. The Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) on Wednesday confirmed that six persons were killed on Tuesday evening when Boko Haram struck at Moloi village in the outskirts of Maiduguri.
Mr Usman Kachalla, the agency’s Head of Rescue Operation, who confirmed the incident to newsmen in Maiduguri, stated that 15 other persons sustained injuries from the attack.
6. Nollywood actors, on Wednesday, alleged that the killings in some part of the North, precisely Zamfara State were politically-motivated.
The group, under the umbrella of Concerned Actors and Seasoned Nollywood Stars, which was lead by former President, Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, Ejike Asiegbu at a rally held in Surulere, Lagos, called for an end to the sponsorship of the senseless killings in the State by political actors and their cohorts.
7. The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide on Wednesday appealed to the Leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu to reconcile with ex-Niger Delta militant Asari Dokubo.
The group urged both parties to reconcile, adding that the rift between Nnamdi Kanu and Dokubo was threatening the bond between South-East and South-South parts of Nigeria.
8. The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, on Wednesday, reacted to the alleged negotiation between federal government and the leadership of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) to end kidnapping and killings in the country.
They further called on the federal government to also dialogue with Biafra agitators who it said were not violent like the herdsmen.
9. Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State on Wednesday assented to the Kano Emirs’ Appointment and Deposition Amendment Bill 2019, after its passage by the State Assembly.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kano State House of Assembly on Wednesday passed a bill establishing four additional emirates and four first class emirs in the state.
NAN also reports that the bill, initiated on Monday, passed first reading on Tuesday and scaled through second and third reading on Wednesday.
10. Tottenham Hotspot overcame a 1-0 home defeat to Ajax, to qualify for the final of the Champions League.
Spurs came from behind to overpower the Dutch side 3-2 to face Premier League rivals, Liverpool in the final.
