1. The Nigerian Senate during its sitting on Wednesday suspended deliberation on the ministerial nomination of Mr. Musiliu Obanikoro. No specific reason was given for the suspension. Obanikoro who was at the National Assembly complex left with his family members when he saw that the Senate was not ready to confirm his nomination.
2. Report says anxiety is on the high side over Gen. Buhari’s failure to attend the All Progressives Congress Diaspora rally organised by the APC Diaspora Community in the United Kingdom. Although, no particular reason was given for Buhari’s failure to attend the rally, the party’s spokesman, Lai Mohammed, dismissed any health related issues, saying he was in the UK because of the rally but for other assignments.
3. Those behind the abduction of Mr. Freddy Ndigbara, the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State have requested for N100 million ransom to set the man free.
4. Former militant leader of the Niger Delta Peoples’ Volunteer Force (NDPVF), Ateke Tom, has advised Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, not to return to Okrika for another phase of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship rally. The ex-militant leader said the decision was taken by the entire community for the interest of peace, hence he is standing by it.
5. The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused President Goodluck Jonathan of concealing certain things about the controversial Ekiti audio tape, describing as untenable and an after-thought his recent statement on why the allegation is yet to be investigated. The party said the President would have rushed to probe the incident if APC was the one indicted.
6. The Presidency on Wednesday denied that the Federal Government had spent about $32 billion (N6.5 trillion) in the ongoing battle against Boko Haram insurgency. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, while dismissing the report in Abuja, said the APC was only out to twist the fact to suit its campaign.
7. The Nigerian Army on Wednesday announced that all soldiers involved in reclaiming Baga in Borno from Boko Haram insurgents would get automatic promotion. This was announced by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Kenneth Minimah, while addressing the soldiers during an official visit to Baga in Borno state.
8. Report says the Vice-Chairman of Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa state, Bijida Yakubu, has been kidnapped by suspected Boko Haram foot soldiers. The Public Relations Officer of the command, Othman Abubakar, disclosed this to newsmen.
9. The governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State, Dr. Rotimi Olulana, has stated that he would emerge victorious in the coming election in the state, saying that he has been chosen by God to defeat the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Mr. Jimi Agbaje in the election.
10. The Federal Executive Council, on Wednesday ‘nodded’ to the operation of nine new private universities in the country. The approved new private universities included; Hallmark University, Michael and Cecilia Ibru University, Kings University, Mountain Top University, Augustine University, Chrisland University and Summit University.
