Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Thursday morning

Good morning! Here are 10 things you need to know this morning:

1. Despite attempts by the Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose and his deputy to stop the House of Assembly from impeaching them, the Federal High Court which they filed their application of an interim order has refused to grant their application and has only asked the respondents in the suit to appear in court on April 16.

2. Electricity distribution companies have been given the directive to fix their own tariffs based on the operational cost in their various locations. The tariffs will however be subject to NERC’s approval.

3. Politicians in Rivers State have been warned by the Security Chiefs in the state to avoid any form of violence. It was warned that what happened during the Presidential elections will not be tolerated during the governorship and House of Assembly elections. Personal aides to politicians were equally withdrawn ahead of the elections.

4. For the first time since her husband lost the March 28 Presidential election, Mrs Jonathan made a public appearance at Okrika, her home town on Wednesday to thank the people for their support during the presidential election.

5.The DSS has revealed that it is investigating the alleged threat on the lives of Ndigbo in Lagos by Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu. Speaking on behalf of the Service in Abuja, its Spokesperson, Marylyn Ogar said the matter was being handled very well. She however did not provide further details.

6. The IG of Police, Suleiman Abba has asked all Policemen attached to politicians to stay away from polling units in the coming governorship elections. He said any police escort seen at polling centres apart from those assigned to polling units will be arrested.

7. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has condemned the alleged indifference shown by the president-Elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari on burning national issues. The party through its Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh said Gen. Buhari has failed to emulate the peaceful action of Pres. Jonathan, as he goes around the country preaching disunity with his team.

8. Though details on his death still remain sketchy, available report says the Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Research, Documentation and Strategy, Oronto Douglas is dead.

9. Igbo groups in Lagos (Ohanaeze-Ndigbo and Igbo Justice Congress) have dragged the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu before the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, over the death threat allegedly issued against them by the Oba.

10. The immediate past political adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan and initiator of the GEJ campaign organisation has surprisingly dumped the PDP for the APC. Gulak and others left PDP on Wednesday (yesterday)
