1.The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Solomon E. Arase, has ordered the diversion of traffic on all roads around Eagle Square on Friday, 29th May, 2015. This is to ensure a hitch-free inauguration ceremony.
2. A Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday ordered security agencies in the country to henceforth stop arresting and forcibly transporting the senator-elect for Ogun East Senatorial District, Mr. Buruji Kashamu, to the United States to stand trial for alleged drug-trafficking offences. The judgment was passed by Justice Okon Abang who also upheld the victory of Kashamu as Senator-Elect in the last election.
3. Former Abia State Governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to remove fuel subsidy before handing over on Friday. He also advised the President-Elect, Gen. Buhari to announce the removal on Friday’s inauguration if Jonathan fails to do so.
4. Governor Tanko Al-makura of Nasarawa State has been warned against taking another oath of office come May 29 as he was not the winner of the last governorship election. This warning was given by a former Minister of Information and Governorship Candidate in the last election, Mr Labaran Maku.
5. Two persons were on Wednesday killed while several others got injured at Dutse Makaranta in Bwari Area Council of the FCT on Wednesday morning when a tipper rammed into some motorcyclists who had queued up in one Shafa filling station to buy fuel. The accident resulted into heavy protest by other okada riders in the area who took over the busy road.
6. The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed the appeal filed against Gov. Rauf Aregbesola over his victory in the last election. Senator Iyiola Omisore of the PDP is challenging the election. However, the judge upheld Aregbesola’s victory as the appeal lacked evidence.
7. Report says some governors will shun the inauguration of their successors this Friday as they have either travelled or have made up their mind not to hand over personally to the new governors. Some of the governors listed include Sule Lamido, Shema Ibrahim, Rotimi Ameachi and Jonah Jang.
8. It was a heavy tragedy at Gure town in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State on Wednesday when four female children were killed by lightening. The lightening that struck during a heavy downpour between 12 midnight of Tuesday and 1a.m of Wednesday removed many roofs to buildings in the area.
9. President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday signed six fresh bills into law. They include Tobacco Control Bill 2015, Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency Act 2015; Equipment and Leasing Bill 2015; AMCON (Amendment) Bill 2015; Standards Organisation of Nigeria Bill 2015, and the National Sugar Development (Amendment) Bill 2015.
10. Rivers State governor, Chibuike Amaechi said his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, will get justice at the tribunal handling the case of the last Rivers election and will eventually reclaim the state from the PDP and Nyesom Wike. Ameachi was speaking at a special thanksgiving service marking his 50th anniversary, yesterday.
