1. The Supreme Court has upheld the election of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, after its leading justice, Kekere-Ekun. ruled that the controversial election was conducted in line with the electoral act. The court, however, promised that reasons for the judgment will come up on February 12.
2. No fewer than 14 people were Wednesday killed in Chibok after two suspected suicide bombers stormed the Chibok market and detonated their explosives. Many were reportedly injured in the attack believed to have been carried out by Boko Haram insurgents.
3. Alhaji Yahaya Bello of the All Progressives Congress and candidate of the party in the Kogi run-off election was on Wednesday sworn in as the authentic governor of the State without a deputy. Bello who wept during his inauguration at the New Kogi Stadium in Lokoja assured that things will change during his reign in the state.
4. Relatively, Abidoun Faleke, the running mate to the late Abubakar Audu in the last Kogi governorship election, has reiterated that he cannot serve as the deputy to Yahaya Bello. Faleke said the inauguration of Bello was a rape of democracy.
5. Former President, Goodluck Jonathan’s ally and Chairman of Atlantic Energy Drilling Concepts Nigeria Limited, Mr Jide Omokore, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. Report says the arrest might be linked to alleged multi-billion dollar petrol import and crude export deals linked to him.
6. Immidiate past President, Goodluck Jonathan has avowed that he will only react to the ongoing arms deal probe at the appointed time. In a series of tweets, the former president said he will not at this time interfere with the proceeding by the judicial system that his administration worked tirelessly to strengthen.
7. At least, five persons including a toddler were yesterday killed in a clash between the Police and residents of Ilaramokin in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo state. The clash resulted from a protest by the people who witnessed the killing of two persons on Tuesday evening by a vehicle. It was gathered that residents of the town led by a former councillor blocked the Ilesa/Akure expressway to protest the killing of the two natives before they clashed with the police.
8. Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has condemned in strong terms the plan by members of the National Assembly to procure cars for themselves, describing such move as insensitive. He communicated his disapproval via a letter dated January 13, 2016 which was addressed to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Yakubu Dogara. He said the plan will amount to waste of the nation’s hard earned resources.
9. Crisis in the fold of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, deepened on Wednesday after Ahmed Gulak declared himself as the authentic Chairman of the party. He made the declaration inside the National Working Committee Hall, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja. He explained that his decision to take over the leadership of the party was in respect of the court order of December 16, 2015, which asked the party to name someone from the North-East as its Chairman.
10. Another witness, on Wednesday, testified against the embattled National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh. The witness, a senior official from the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, Mr. Baleh Ndam, told the Federal High Court, Abuja, that Metuh’s firm, Destra Investments Limited, was among 78 beneficiaries of the alleged fraudulent payment from the ONSA without executing any contract.
