1. The senator representing Adamawa North Senatorial District, Senator Elisha Abbo, has apologised to Nigerians, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and women in general, following a viral video in which he was caught physically assaulting a lady at a sex-toy shop in Abuja. While apologising at a press conference at the PDP headquarters in Abuja, The Senator, who was close to tears at the briefing, asked for forgiveness even from the family of the lady, saying it was not in his character to assault women.
2. Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, on Wednesday urged President Muhammadu Buhari to apologise to Nigerians for saying that former Head of State, late General Sani Abacha did not loot the country. Falana, speaking during Human Environment Development Agenda, HEDA, conference on Wednesday in Abuja said it was necessary for Buhari to apologise after his administration recovered part of the Abacha loot.
3. Barely 48 hours to the planned mass action and following public outcry against the RUGA Settlement Projects, President Muhammadu Buhari is said to have suspended the idea pending further notice. A source close to the presidency hinted newsmen on Wednesday, that President Buhari may have resolved to suspend the scheme till further consultations.
4. Barely 24 hours after he was released from prison, the self-acclaimed President of the Biafra Zionists Federation, Barr. Benjamin Onwuka has renewed his agitation for Biafra. Addressing journalists shortly after he arrived Enugu, Onwuka said he had become more strengthened in his push for Biafra. He claimed that with the support of the United States, his inauguration as Biafra President would take place on July 30, at the Michael Okpara Square, Enugu.
5. The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to a CCTV footage relating to allegations of malfeasance against a senator elected on the platform of the PDP, Senator Elisha Abbo. Kola Ologbondiyan, National Publicity Secretary, in a statement on Wednesday, said the PDP, as a law-abiding and upstanding party, detests and completely condemns such act of lawlessness and callousness as exhibited in the video and will never condone it. He stated that investigation has been launched into the matter and that the party has summoned the lawmaker.
6. The Senate on Tuesday set up an Ad-hoc Committee with Senator Samuel Egwu as chairman to investigate the alleged assault by the Senator representing Adamawa North Senatorial district, Elisha Abbo of a nursing mother at a sex-toy shop in Abuja. Speaking through order 14, Senator Uba Sani representing Kaduna Central Senatorial district explained that the video would bring the 9th Senate to the public opium if the allegation was not investigated. Members of the committee are Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Matthew Uroghide, Stella Oduah and Danladi Sankara.
7. The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has said the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) is not its member. Kwamkur Vondip, national director, legal and public affairs of CAN, made this known in a statement on Wednesday. COZA has been in the news since Busola, celebrity photographer and wife of singer Timi Dakolo, accused Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, of rape. Vondip, while expressing worry over the recurrent rape allegations levelled against pastors in various churches, said such an act was against the Christian faith.
8. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) did not include any Nigerian player, in its Best XI from the group stages of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. The list which was published on Wednesday by CAF, includes four Egyptian players led by Liverpool winger, Mohammed Salah. Al-Ahly goalkeeper El-Shennawi and West Bromwich defender Hegazi, Algeria’s Ismail Bennacer and Riyad Mahrez, as well as Morocco defender Achraf Hakimi, Senegal midfielder, Sadio Mane, Ghana forward, Jordan Ayew, Cameroon defender, Yaya Banana and Madagascar midfielder, Anicet Andrianantenaina were also named among the best 11.
9. The Federal Government has begun interrogation of those implicated in the alleged fraud that leftover 65,000 Nigerian shareholders losing two billion dollars worth of shares. Those invited for interrogation are former minister of Budget and National Planning, Sen. Udo Udoma and his counterpart in the Ministry of Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah. Chukwuemeka Obasi, the legal representative of the whistle-blower disclosed this to newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja.
10. Members of the House of Representatives went int a rowdy session on Wednesday over the declaration of the minority leader by the Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila. The rowdy session followed the Speaker’s decision to abandon a letter by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nominating Kingsley Chinda as Minority Leader to announce Ndidi Elumelu. This culminated in a protest by members of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
