1. The National Vice-Chairman (South-South) of the All Progressives Congress, Hilliard Eta, has faulted the recent his South-West counterpart, Pius Akinyelure that the Ondo guber primary of the party was rigged.
Eta who spoke on behalf of other members of the party’s National Working Committee described Akinyelure’s claim as false and an attempt to please an unnamed benefactor.
2. One Lance Corporal Edwin George, serving in the Nigerian Army, Maiduguri Army Barrack, has been arrested by the police in Otukpo, Benue State in connection with the recent abduction of the CBN Governor’s wife, Margaret Emefiele in Edo state. George was picked up by the Technical Intelligence Support from TIU headed by Abba Kyari, a Chief Superintendent of Police with N1.1m.
3. The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has stated that there is no place for suicide bombers in heaven.
Abubakar, who spoke when he hosted music star, Innocent ‘2baba’ Idibia in his palace, added that Islam and Christianity preached peace and love among their faithful.
4. Nigerian currency, Naira on Wednesday gained strenght against the dollar in all the segments of the foreign exchange market.
The currency gained 9.97 points to exchange at N310.24 from N320.21 it recorded on Tuesday, representing an appreciation of 3.1 per cent.
It also gained a point against the dollar at the parallel market, exchanging at N475 from N476 posted on Tuesday, while it closed against the Pound Sterling and the Euro at N590 and N510, respectively.
5. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has grilled Prof. Adebiyi Daramola, Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology (FUTA) Akure and the Bursar, Emmanuel Oresegun The duo was quizzed at the Ibadan office of the anti-graft agency on allegation of abuse of office and misappropriation of funds.
6. A former Commissioner for Land, Survey and Housing during the administration of Chief Lucky Igbinedion in Edo State, Prince Efosa Akenzua is dead.
Prince Akenzua, according to his first son, Prince Oghosa Akenzua died after a brief illness.
7. The House of Representatives has threw out a fresh bid for the convergence of a national conference and a referendum where a new constitution for the country would be approved by Nigerians.
However, when a member from Rivers State, Mr. Kingsley Chinda, and another lawmaker from Edo State, Mr. Peter Akpatason, introduced a bill on Wednesday seeking to provide for the convocation of a national conference, it was trashed without delay.
8. A Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed an application filled before it by a former Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, asking for an order to stop the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the police from arresting her over ongoing investigation into corruption allegation against her.
Justice Abdu Kafarati in his judgment upheld the objection raised by the respondents, to the effect that the court lacked the requisite jurisdiction to hear the case.
9. Governor Adams Oshiomole of Edo State has accused the Peoples Democratic Party of rigging the just concluded governorship election in the state.
Oshiomole said PDP’s candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu could not have pocketed more than 50,000 votes if the election was not rigged.
10. The Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, has blamed the epileptic power supply in Nigeria on western powers.
She claimed western powers were stumbling block to Nigeria’s plan to improve power output through the use of coal.
