1. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission , EFCC, will today arraign a former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, for allegedly receiving N26m from the Office of the National Security Adviser. FFK is also being accused of handling the said N26m without going through financial institution as required under the Money Laundering Act.
2. Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka has said people should watch out for his next action on January 20 regarding his earlier threat of tearing his green card should Donald Trump emerge victorious in the just concluded US election. He said he will take the action as earlier stated on the date (Jan. 20th) when Trump would be sworn-in.
3. The bill for an Act to provide for establishment of grazing areas management agency and other related matters, Wednesday failed to scale second reading in the senate as it was stood down by the lawmakers. One of the reasons of standing the bill down was the fact that is not in the exclusive or concurrent lists but the residual list which is directly under the authority of the state government.
4. The House of Representatives on Wednesday charged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Central Bank of Nigeria to take decisive action against the promoters of the Mavrodi Mondial Moneybox, otherwise known as MMM, in Nigeria. The lawmakers while opposing the investment scheme, said it was a scam.
5. After his failed prophecy on the outcome of the US election where he said a woman would emerge as President of the United States, TB Joshua of the SCOAN has now deleted the purported message which was initially posted on his facebook wall. His action has triggered reactions from many quarters.
6. A 20-year-old primary school teacher, Collins Obi, was on Wednesday arrested by the Oyo State Police Command for allegedly raping a 10-year-old boy in Ibadan. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu, said the teacher committed the act on November 5, 2016, after taking advantage the boy as his personal teacher.
7.In order to create impression of its readiness to negotiate with the Federal Government, the Niger Delta militant group, Bakassi Strike Force (BSF), has surrendered part of its arms. The spokesman of the Joint Military Task Force in the Niger Delta, Lt.-Col. Olaolu Daudu, confirmed the development , saying the group had turned in one General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) and an AK 47 rifle as a show of good faith towards the peace deal.
8. The Director-General of the National Population Commission, NPC, Ghaji Bello, has said Nigeria’s population has grown to 182 million. He disclosed that more than half its people were under 30 years of age. This, according to him, has put a severe strain on a nation, as the present economy cannot provide for the growing number of young people.
9.Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, on Wednesday, said the victory of Donald Trump as the President-elect of the United State of America, USA, marks the era of real change in Nigeria. He said the victory was a message that those who imposed the present All Progressives Congress, APC, government on Nigerians had just lost out. Fayose is optimistic that Trump will call President Buhari to order over his alleged human right abuses.
10. A report has claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari will today inaugurate Justice Walter Onnoghen as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria. According to the report, the decision was taken to avoid a vacuum in the judiciary as the incumbent, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, has now reached his mandatory 70 years retirement age. The inauguration will hold at the Presidential Villa by 2pm.
