1. The Nigerian Senate yesterday ordered its Committee on Sports to investigate the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development and the Nigeria Football Federation over non-payment of Super Falcons’ allowances and match bonuses.

The probe is to be extended to non-payment of Super Eagles’ allowances and other national teams.

2. A Pakistan International Airlines ATR-42 aircraft conveying over 47 passengers crashed on Wednesday killing over 40 persons on board in Northern Chitral region.

Among the casualties is one of the country’s best known musicians, Junaid Jamshed.

3. As part of its ongoing nationwide war against corruption, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday quizzed the children of Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia at the Lagos office of the commission for several hours.

The judge’s children were grilled as part of the investigations into the allegations that their mother received a total of $793,800 in several tranches from different sources unlawfully between 2012 and 2015.

4. Former First Lady, Patience Jonathan has called for protection of the House of Representatives against alleged constant harassment by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The former President’s wife laid a petition before the House in Abuja, complaining that her fundamental human rights were infringed upon by the anti-graft agency.

5. The Senator representing Kogi West, Senator Dino Melaye has bitterly lamented the continued delay in the replacement of the Kogi State Ministerial slot after the death of the late Minister of State for Employment, Labour and Productivity, James Ocholi, SAN.

Melaye, while raising a Point of Order told the Senate during the plenary that Kogi has been completely ostracized from President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.

6. The Nigeria Police Force has explained why it redeployed the Chief Security Officer attached to Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

The force headquarters anchored its reason on the gross professional misconduct of the officer during a recent protest in the state.

7. The Federal Government has revealed that a Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, spent over N500m between January and October 2016 despite his total annual legitimate earnings, including his allowances being N24m.

This was made known in a document prepared by the prosecuting counsel, Mr. Charles Adeogun-Philips, summarising the case of the prosecution against the Justice of the Supreme Court, who was on November 21, 2016, arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja.

8. Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has asked the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, to ignore anybody, who called Moremi Ajasoro a traitor.

According to him, such view did not take away anything from the reality of who Moremi was.

9. President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered an immediate and independent investigation into the death of a 2016 Batch ‘B’ corps member, Miss Ifedolapo Oladepo, who died at the Kano Orientation Camp recently.

According to Buhari, the investigation was meant to “unravel the true circumstances” surrounding Oladepo’s death.

10. Former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mrs. Farida Waziri, has called on the Federal Government to ensure that all politicians undergo psychiatric test before occupying any office.

According to her, some politicians owned houses on every continent of the world because they did not know what to do with stolen funds.
