1.The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers , after few hours of industrial action on Wednesday suspended its three-day nationwide warning strike. The suspension was as a result of a meeting it had with officials of the Federal Government.
2. The House of Representatives, Wednesday, said that no government agency has the constitutional power to determine the tenure of religious leaders in the country. It has, therefore, ordered a “detailed” public hearing on the activities of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, especially as it relates to the Council’s decision to fix the tenure of religious leaders.
3.Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has ordered for a comprehensive audit of staff of the National Assembly. He gave the directive in a letter to the Clerk to the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani-Omolori tagged “Carrying out a comprehensive human resource audit in the National Assembly.” The aim of the audit, according to Saraki is to verify the skills, efficiency and motivation of the staff.
4. Former Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel has received the sum of £2million (N1billion) from his former club, Chelsea, as severance package as he moves to a Chinese club. As part of the gesture to appreciate the 29-year-old, the Stamford Bridge club did not negotiate any fee for the midfielder and have consequently paid him off with his wages for the last six months of his deal.
5. The Nigerian Army said it had recovered corpses of “one officer and 15 soldiers’’ earlier declared “Missing in Action” during an operation to dislodge the Boko Haram insurgents from Gashigar Area in Borno on Oct. 16, 2016. The Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj.- Gen. Lucky Irabor, made this public at a weekly review of Operation Rescue Final at Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, on Wednesday. He said the corpses were recovered along Kamadugou River line in Maiduguri.
6.The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in the 17 Southern States, yesterday, said Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai must be held responsible for the incessant killings of Christians in Kaduna State. Secretary of CAN in the region, Dr. Joseph Aka Ajujungwa, who spoke alongside the Chairman of CAN in the South-East, Most. Rev. Prof. David Eberechukwu, declared El-Rufai was responsible for the murder of hundreds of Christians in the State.
7. Nigeria’s economy will bounce back from recession in 2017; the World Bank has said. The bank also said its Gross Domestic Product will grow by one per cent this year. This was contained in a statement the bank issued on Wednesday.
8. The Senate, yesterday, rejected the Federal Government’s ban on the importation of vehicles through land borders in the country. It equally called on the Customs to with immediate effect suspend action on its policy of a total ban on importation of vehicles through the country’s land borders.
9. The Publisher of an online news medium, Saharareporters, Omoyele Sowore was on Wednesday evening arrested by the police. His arrest followed a complaint by one Lekan Fatodu, who accused him of defamation of character. The status of the case is yet available at the moment.
10. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, yesterday, announced that the Kaduna, Port Harcourt and Warri refineries had resumed production of Dual Purpose Kerosene, DPK, and Automotive Gas Oil, AGO, otherwise known as kerosene and diesel respectively. The corporation in a statement said the production of both products started since Saturday, disclosing that more than six million litres of kerosene and seven million litres of diesel were produced daily.
