1. The kidnappers of the Director of Finance of Isa Local Government in Sokoto State, Alhaji Bello Bodinga, and three others, have demanded for a N250 million ransom. This is according to the State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Abdulkadir. The victims were abducted on Monday by nine gunmen that were clad in military uniform along Sokoto-Isa road.
2. Following the the accidental airstrike in Borno State that killed scores of civilians, a high-level federal government delegation were in Maiduguri on Wednesday to commiserate with the state. The delegation includes Chief of Staff to the President , Abba Kyari, Ministers of Defence as well as Information and Culture,Mansur Dan Alli and Lai Mohammed respectively and Chief of Defence Staff, Gabriel Olonisakin. Others are the Chief of Air Staff ,Sadik Abubakar and the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai.
3. The Gambia lawmakers have extended President Yahya Jammeh’s stay in office by 90 days. The lawmakers had on Wednesday given the controversial leader another 3 months of grace so as to ward off any form of military action and violence that may result from his insistence to remain as president. This was announced on the country’s State television. Jammeh, however, has up to midnight to hand over government or faces military action.
4. Six suspects, who confessed to be responsible for the killing of the erstwhile head of the Command Secondary School, Apata, Ibadan, Col. Anthony Okeyim were paraded by the authorities of the 2 Division of the Nigerian Army on Wednesday. The suspects include,Solomon Agada Emmanuel (20), Bibisoye Kehinde a.k.a. Efrebor (27), Taiwo Adeniyi (34), Ewere Andrew (25), Ephraim Obi (38) , Udobata Onusa-Uze a.k.a. Kaka (28).
5. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC,Wednesday, debunked reports in some quarters that it was planning to hike the price of petrol. The NNPC, in a statement in Abuja to discard the news and desist from panic buying of petroleum products as it has over 1.3 billion litres stock of PMS, which is sufficient to serve the nation for more than 38 days.
6. Following the commenced of sale of dollars to bureaux de change (BDCs) on Wednesday by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Wednesday, the naira appreciated to N490 per dollar, from N497 earlier this week, in the parallel market. President, Association of Bureaux De Change Operators of Nigeria (ABCON), Alhaji Aminu Gwadabe confirmed the development.
7. Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday invaded the Secretariat of the Ondo State Oil producing Area and Development Commission (OSOPADEC) Oba-Ile Akure north local government and arrested four of its senior staff.
8. The arrested staff included its chairman, Pastor Johnson Ogunyemi, Secretary, Dr. Dele Durojaye, Sola Orisamoluwa and the Director of Finance, Vincent Ikuomola.
9. The Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose has continued his attack on Buhari’s government and the APC, saying that Nigerians don’t need counselling to reject the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2019 general elections in the country. In a statement on Wednesday, the governor said the abysmal performance of the party has already made the people to look the other way.
10. The Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, also referred to as the Shi’ites, says it has uncovered a fresh plot by the Federal Government, Kaduna State Government and security operatives to kill its leader, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and his wife, Malama Zeenatu Ibraheem in detention. In a statement issued and signed by its spokesperson, Sheikh Abdulhameed Bello yesterday, the group consequently demanded the immediate and unconditional release of its leader and his wife.
A Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture in Mafa Local Government Area of Borno state, Umar Ibrahim and four others have been arrested by the Maiduguri office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC for the alleged diversion of 300 bags of rice donated by Danish Refugee Council (DRC), a Non Governmental Organization and meant for the Internally Displaced Persons( IDPs) in the council.
