Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Thursday morning

1. President Muhammadu Buhari has again spoken from his sick bed in London, assuring Nigerians that he is responding to treatment.

Buhari, who spoke with Kano State governor, Umar Ganduje, thanked Nigerians for their prayers and support for his government while he was away.

2. Explosion rocked the Right of Way gas pipelines, one of which belongs to the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited, about 3km from Rumuji in Rivers State Wednesday night.

The General Manager, External Relations Division of NLNG, Kudo Eresia-Eke, said the cause of the explosion was yet to be determined.

3. The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has warned that those behind the persecution of its founder and leader, Mazi Nnamdi, Kanu will die.

Emma Powerful, the group’s spokesman, threatened that those punishing Kanu and his followers would continue to die until he is freed from detention.

4. Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, has requested the approval from the House of Representatives, to secure $500million out of the $1billion Eurobound from the International Capital Market (ICM).

According to Osinbajo, the money would be used to fund the 2016 Budget deficit.

5. Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has rejected four bills that were recently passed into law by the National Assembly.

In a letter addressed to the Senate which was read by Senate President at plenary on Wednesday, Osinbajo spotted various administrative flaws to those bills. The Bills are Dangerous Drugs bill, National Agricultural Credit Scheme, National Lottery Commission as amended, and Currency conversion Act.

6. Unknown gunmen Thursday kidnapped one Peter Breunij, a German professor of archaeology and his colleague, Johannes Buringer at Jenjela village in Kagarko local government area of Kaduna State. The gunmen also killed a hunter and one other in the attack.

7. The Department of State Services, DSS, has arrested one of the vocal critics of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, Mr. Babatunde Gbadamosi. The operatives, who whisked him to an unknown destination, denied members of his family and his lawyers access to him.

8. The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has stated that he is ready to step down from office after the national convention of the party, where new officers will be elected for the former ruling party.

He, however, warned governors, elected on the platform of the PDP, not to divide the party.

9. The Nigerian Army says it has jailed one of its personnel for molesting a civilian in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Deputy Director, Army Public Relations of the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Bori camp, Port Harcourt, Colonel Aminu Iliyasu who disclosed this, said the jailed military personnel was said to have manhandled one Ebere Ohakwe around the Omagwa Checkpoint in Rivers State.

10. At least five persons were killed on Wednesday when armed robbers attacked a branch of a new generation Bank located along the popular Wetheral Road, Owerri, Imo State capital

The heavily armed robbers trailed someone who wanted to deposit large sum of money to the bank and instantly shot him dead.
