1. The Marine Police, Lagos State command has confirmed the recovery of the dead body of Dr. Allwell Orji, who jumped off the third mainland bridge into the Lagos lagoon on Sunday. It confirmed that the body was discovered at about 4:00 pm around the CMS area of the lagoon by officers of the Lagos State Police marine. Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, said members of the late doctor’s family have identified the body.
2. The Senate on Wednesday decried the continuous failure of the executive to answer legislative summons, saying such was capable of bringing the nation’s democracy to an end. The Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Sabi Abdullahi, said this while reacting to a letter written by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Babachir Lawal, where he said he had taken the senate to court and would not honour their invitation.
3. The Senator representing Kogi West senatorial district, Dino Melaye has instituted a N5 billion libel suit against an online media platform, SaharaReporters over allegation that he did not graduate from ABU, Zaria. The Senator is taking the action against the newspaper for alleged defamation of character, wrongful accusation, among other charges.
4. Governor of Bayelsa state and Chairman, reconciliatory Committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has submitted its recommendation to the Senate caucus of the party for the possible resolution of the ongoing crisis in the party. In his speech, he explained that the recommendation was not a final document, hence, it was still open to further suggestions by well meaning party faithful, so long as it would contribute to peace building for the party.
5. The Department of State Services, DSS, on Wednesday said it has arrested high-profile kidnappers and terrorists whose activities have continually threatened the peace of the nation. DSS spokesman, Tony Opuiyo, in a statement said on 20th March, 2017, a suspected Boko Haram kingpin, Adenoyi Abdulsalam, was arrested in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State by a Joint Military/DSS operation team. He also disclosed names of others who have equally been arrested by the DSS.
6. A member of the House of Representatives, Hassan Anthony Saleh, elected under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and representing Ado/Ogbadibo/Okpokwu constituency of Benue in the House of Representatives has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. His defection was announced on the floor of the House at the start of Wednesday’s plenary.
7. Following his refusal to appear before the senate, the Upper Legislative Chambers, on Wednesday demanded that the Comptroller General of Nigerian Customs Services, NCS, Col. Hameed Ali(rtd) must resign his appointment, stressing that he was unfit for his position. The Senate said relying on a matter being in court after he had already been summoned amounted to interference in its duties.
8. Report has it that three suicide bombers Wednesday attacked the Gulumba temporary Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, camp at about 3am, resulting to loss of many lives. The IDPs is opposite Muna garage in Maiduguri.
9. Plateau Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Samuel Galadima, slumped and died Wednesday morning. He died while jogging alongside Governor Simon Lalong, at the Rwang Pam Stadium, Jos. Emmanuel Nanle, Director of Press Affairs, confirmed the incident.
10. The Senate on Wednesday approved the sum of $500million eurobond meant to finance 2016 budget deficit. The approval came after two hours closed door session. The approval would enable President Muhammadu Buhari to source the amount from the Capital Market.
