1. Witness for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the presidential Election Petition Tribunal, Oshideinde Henry Sunday Adewumi, Wednesday, affirmed that the Cambridge Assessment Education certified statement for President Muhammadu Buhari was not a certificate. But the said result document obtained from Cambridge university in London was part of the total documents presented as evidence to prove that Buhari is a true holder of West African Examination Council, WAEC. The document was also denied by Mohammed Sariki Abba, another APC Witness.
2. Mrs Rebecca Sharibu, the mother of Leah Sharibu yesterday pleaded with the Federal Government to intensify efforts towards her daughter’s release from Boko Haram captivity. Rebecca said, “I still plead with Federal Government, organisations and individuals to intensify efforts for the release of my daughter, Leah, who has been in the hands of insurgents for one year and five months.”
3. The elections petition tribunal sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital on Wednesday sacked Ikengboju Gboluga of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the member representing Okitipupa/Irele federal constituency in the House of Representatives. Gboluga was sacked by the tribunal over his allegiance to the United Kingdom having acquired UK citizenship. The tribunal noted that the petitioner, Albert Akintoye, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had been able to prove that the respondent was a citizen of the United kingdom and ineligible to run for political office in Nigeria under section 66 sub-section one of the 1999 constitution.
4. The Maiduguri Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, secured the conviction and sentencing of Josephine Udeh, before Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court, sitting in Maiduguri on a one-count charge of obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N5, 059,000. Udeh, who was the Proprietress of Dala Standard Secondary School, Maiduguri, collected the said sum as WAEC registration fees from 284 students of her school and converted it to her private use. She pleaded not guilty upon her arraignment on Wednesday, April 24, 2019.
5. The lawmaker representing Kogi West in the National Assembly Senator Dino Melaye on Wednesday said his decision to oppose the alleged oppressive leadership of the present administration in his State made him escape four assassination attempts between 2018 and 2019. Melaye said he won’t stop criticizing the Yahaya Bello led APC government until the right thing is done for the people. He observed that his criticism on the present administration also led to his arraignment in 18 different court in one year.
6. The Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, on Wednesday disclosed that its members are “temporarily” suspending the regular street protest, calling for the release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky from detention. IMN explained that the suspension of its street protests was to “allow for some new openings into the resolution of the problems, especially the court case instituted by our lawyers on the proscription order made by the federal government this week.” An Abuja Federal High Court had on Friday ordered the proscription of IMN, following their clashes with security operatives.
7. The Plateau State Government on Wednesday said arrangement has been concluded for the commencement of cattle ranching policy in some parts of the state. This was disclosed by the Director-General, Plateau Peace Building Agency (PPBA), Joseph Lengman, during a roundtable discussion tagged: “National Livestock Transformation Plan: Insight and Prospects” held in Jos, the Plateau state capital.
8. Following the new twist announced by host of BBnaija, Ebuka, Big Brother on Wednesday introduced two more housemates to the house. Big Brother brought in new housemates, Joe and Ede Nkechinyere, also known as Enkay.
9. Speaker of the Edo House of Assembly, Mr Francis Okiye, on Wednesday filed a suit stopping the National Assembly from taking over the state assembly’s functions at the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
In an originating summon and a motion on notice for interlocutory injunction with suit number: FHC/ABJ/CS/815/2019 filed by the Speaker and the state’s assembly, the plaintiffs asked Justice Nkeonye Maha to restrain the National Assembly from going ahead with its plans pending the hearing on the matter. The suit was instituted against Mr Mohammed Sani-Omolori, the Clerk of the National Assembly (first defendant), and the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (second defendant) on July 17.
10. Prof. Simon Ortuanya is the new Secretary to the Enugu State Government. DAILY POST reports that his appointment was announced by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of the State. Ortuanya, from Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, was once a commissioner for education in the State. The Governor met with stakeholders from Igbo-Etiti on Wednesday. The SSG’s appointment was a major highlight of the meeting.
