1. Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has called for the arrest of those behind the three-month quit notice given to Igbos to vacate the North.
In a statement signed by his spokesman, Samuel Aruwan, El-Rufai strongly frowned at “the inciting, hate speech delivered by some self-appointed ‘northern youths”.
2. The federal government of Nigeria led by President Muhammadu Buhari has announced the release of N375.8 million for the payment of 20 whistleblowers.
According to the statement, the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun said the 20 beneficiaries were the first to be paid by the federal government under the whistleblower policy which was launched in December 2016.
3. Suspected Boko Haram sect members yesterday attacked Maiduguri, the Borno State capital ahead of the visit of the Acting President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo.
Gunshots were being fired in all directions around Jiddari Polo in Maiduguri, as residents scampered for safety and sources said the terrorists were attempting to occupy Maiduguri.
4. Former media aide to the immediate past administration of Goodluck Jonathan, Doyin Okupe has stated that Nigeria will not break even as he noted that all the ingredients required to justify break up have manifested.
In an article he entitled, “Drums of war and Cries for Separation,” Okupe relied on the supernatural forces to keep the country as one.
5. The Senate has finally confirmed the nomination of 82-year-old Justice Sylvanus Nsofor (retd) as an ambassador.
Senate had initially turned Nsofor down in March, alongside the nominee from Ondo State, Jacob Igbekele Daodu, following a report of the Department of State Services, DSS, which indicted him for corruption.
6. The bill to establish Southeast Development Commission sponsored by Senator Stella Oduah (PDP) Anambra North Senatorial district and Samuel Anyanwu (PDP), Imo East Senatorial district passed second reading yesterday.
The bill, which was first introduced on 26th June, 2016, is to serve as a catalyst to develop the commercial potentials of the Southeast.
7. The Emir of Kano, Mallam Muhammad Sanusi 11, on Wednesday sacked his Senior Private Secretary, Alhaji Isah Bayero, over what was described as alleged sabotage.
Isah Bayero, a former pilot was sacked after he was accused of leaking information on the expenditure of the council’s funds to the media.
8. The remains of popular actress, Moji Olaiya, were on Wednesday committed to mother earth at the Ebony Vault burial ground in Ikoyi, Lagos.
Olaiya, who died in Canada on May 17, following what was reported to be a cardiac arrest, three months after she was delivered of a baby girl, was buried amid tears and tributes from her colleagues, family, friends and well-wishers.
9. Parents of kidnapped pupils of the Lagos State Model College, Igbonla, Epe, yesterday protested against the alleged indifference of the state government towards the plight of the pupils who had spent 14 days in kidnappers’ den.
The protesters refused to leave Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s office, demanding the rescue of their children with immediate effect. The state officials while addressing them said the security agencies were on top of the situation.
10. The police on Wednesday said they had deployed detectives to arrest northern youths, who ordered Igbos to quit the North before October 1, 2017.
The Force Headquarters said it had directed police formations across the country to beef up security.
