1. Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has pulled out from the dialogue between his group and the South-East Governors.
Kanu, who had earlier met the Governors few days back and was scheduled to be at the Enugu Government House for a continuation of the dialogue on Friday, said he was pulling out because his security was no longer guaranteed.
2. The Federal Executive Council Wednesday ordered the probe of past managements of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, (NIMASA) and the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) over allegations that they failed to remit revenue.
Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, described the looting in both agencies as “massive”.
3. A former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has warned President Muhammadu Buhari against being a sectional leader.
Ezekwesili asked Buhari to rather take the moral high ground by showing love to all.
4. The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, CACOL, a community-based and civil society organisation has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently rejig his cabinet.
The organization specifically urged the president to sack the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, Kemi Adosun of Finance and AGF, Abubakar Malami for making more noise than he worked since they came on board.
5. The United Labour Congress on Wednesday threatened that workers in the country would embark on an indefinite strike if the Federal Government failed to meet its demands by Friday (tomorrow).
ULC Presidnent, Joe Ajaero, urged Nigerians to take precaution and stock up necessities, saying the strike will be very effective as they hoped to cripple all modes of transportation within the nation.
6. The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris has appointed Sadiq Bello as the new Police Commissioner for Federal Capital Territory (FCT) command.
According to him, the immediate past Commissioner of Police, Musa Kimo, has handed-over to Bello in a brief ceremony held at the FCT Police Command Headquarters.
8. Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi West Senatorial District on Wednesday filed before the Court of Appeal in Abuja an eight-ground notice of appeal challenging the judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja which had on Tuesday given a nod to the commencement of the recall process initiated by some of his aggrieved constituents.
The senator, through his lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), argued in his first grounds of appeal that Justice Dimgba erred in law “when he held that the petition presented to INEC” for his recall “was valid, even when the petition exhibited by INEC was not signed by more than half of the registered voters in the plaintiff’s appellant’s constituency as is required by Section 69 of the 1999 Constitution.”
8. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has announced plans to shut down three of its four refineries.
According to the Group Managing Director, Dr. Maikanti Baru the purpose of the closure of the refineries located in Port Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna was to rehabilitate and restore them to nameplate capacities.
9. The National Assembly has postponed its resumption from annual recess by one week.
The lawmakers were earlier expected to resume on September 19, but will now re-convene on September 26, 2017.
10. The South-East Governors’ Forum has set up a seven-man committee to investigate the clash involving troops of the Nigerian Army and members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) near the Afara-Ukwu, Umuahia, Abia home of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
According to the forum, the committee is to “investigate all the issues” and report its findings during the forum’s emergency meeting on Friday, September 15.
