Nigerian newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Sunday morning

1. Dr John Danfulani, Chairman, Centrum Initiative for Development And Fundamental Rights Advocacy, CEDRA, has enjoined governor Nasiru Ahmed El-Rufai to prove his impartiality by arresting and prosecuting the Northern Youth groups and Professor Ango Abdullahi by giving ultimatum directing Igbos in Northern Nigeria to relocate to their states of origin. In a letter he addressed to governor El-Rufai and made available to newsmen in Kaduna Saturday, Dr. Danfulani, a former lecturer of Kaduna State University said It is clear that the governor was practicing a specie of apartheid system in Kaduna where only one ethnic group determines the right of the people.

2. Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has said that Northerners want to use Igbos as scapegoat to cover up for President Muhammadu Buhari’s inability to drive Nigeria. He said that the target of the Arewa Youths and the Arewa Consultative Forum was to use the Igbos to cause crisis in Nigeria. The ex-minister made this known in a statement he shared on his twitter handle on Saturday.

3. Report has it that the process of recalling Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi West Senatorial District of Kogi State has commenced. Constituents from Kogi West, where the senator hails from, reportedly started mobilising on Friday to register to sign for his recall.

4. The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Saturday, in an official reaction to the quit notice served on Ndigbo in the North, said it was not interested in the calls for ‎the arrest of the Arewa Youths and Ango Abdulahi of the Northern Elders’ Forum, urging Igbos to start relocating home immediately. Their position was contained in a statement by the IPOB’s Director of Media and Publicity, Comrade Emma Powerful.

5. Boko Haram, under the leadership of Abubakar Shekau has said that it was responsible for Wednesday’s attacks on Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, where 15 people were killed. Shekau, said the war was far from ending as his children will continue even after he dies.

6. South Africa football team, Saturday recorded its first competitive win over Nigeria after defeating the Super Eagles 2-0 during a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match at the Akwa Ibom Stadium, Uyo. Second half goals from Tokelo Rantie and Percy Tau gave the South Africans the needed three points from the game.

7. The Nigerian Law School has released summary of the final examination results conducted from April 22 to 28. The Director-General, Nigerian Law School, Mr Olarewaju Onadeko, (SAN), made this known in a statement on Saturday in Bwari, FCT. He said that 2,125 students participated in the examinations and 1,393 were successful. The statement noted that candidates with conditional Pass were 196 while 596 failed.

8. Hollywood actor, Adam West, best known for playing Batman in the 1960s TV series, has died at the age of 88. He died in Los Angeles on Friday night following a short battle with leukemia.

9. The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has dismissed reports which claim that it has fixed 24th June, 2017 as date for the commencement of the 2017 Batch ‘A’ (Stream II) Orientation Course. According to a statement issued during the weekend by its Director of Public Relations, Bose Aderibigbe, NYSC said the information was false and misleading.

10. Veteran Nollywood actor and film producer, Bob-Manuel Udokwu, has called on all Igbo people living in the North to go back to the East without wasting more time. Bob-Manuel reacting to the quit notice issued by the Coalition of Northern Youths, said Igbos are fearless and hardworking, advising them to return with little of what they have in the north.
