1. A former military governor of defunct Western Region, Gen. David Jemibewon (retd.), has declared that the middle Belt will remain in Nigeria should the country break-up.
According to the former military boss, the Middle belt hold the Northern and the Southern part of the country together and as such will remain in Nigeria.
2. Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has alleged that those who kill Christians and practiced “stealth” Jihad are the ones that will set Nigeria on fire.
Fani-Kayode in a tweet said, “its those that kill Christians and practice stealth jihad that will set this country on fire and not T.Y. Danjuma and the Christian elders.’’
3. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will hold its expanded National Caucus, Board of Trustees (BoT), and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings on Monday, July 17.
The notice of the meeting was jointly issued in Abuja on Saturday, by the National Secretary of PDP National Caretaker Committee, Senator Ben Obi, and the National Secretary of BOT for BOT Chairman, Ambassador Aminu Wali.
4. The Sultan of Sokoto, Dr. Muhammad Abubakar has debunked reports that there were plans to islamize Nigeria or force Christian students to learn Islamic Religious Knowledge.
The monarch recalled that when Umar Yar’Adua was President, Christians and Muslims leaders wrote, asking him to make Islamic and Christian Religious Knowledge core and compulsory subjects in schools.
5. Garbine Muguruza beat Venus Williams 7-5, 6-0 on Saturday to win the 2017 Wimbledon Women’s title.
The 23-year-old became the second Spanish woman to win Wimbledon, a title she lost to Venus’ sister Serena in her maiden Wimbledon final in 2015.
6. The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, who is reportedly out of the country, has instructed that the Commission challenge the court order stopping the Senator Dino Melaye‘s recall process.
INEC said Yakubu was not going to“succumb to blackmail”, that was rumoured to have come from the Senate.
7. Constitutional lawyer and human rights activist, Mike Ozekhome has said that the Bill which seeks to give amnesty to treasury looters willing to return their loot will legalize and legitimize corruption in Nigeria, which, according to him was dangerous to the country’s already battered image
He also slammed the originators of the proposed bill which he described as dead on arrival, scandalous and highly debasing.
8. The Cross River State House of Assembly (CRSHA) has declared the seat of Hon member Okora Elucate Ekom, representing Obubra 11 State Constituency vacant over his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon John Gaul Lebo confirmed that the house took the decision after receiving a resolution from his Obubra Chapter of the PDP and the State Executive of the Party also declaring the seat vacant.
9. Founder of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign of Biafra, MASSOB, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, has claimed that he assured Odumegwu Ojukwu that there will not be another civil war in the quest for Biafra’s sovereignty.
Uwazuruike, who lamented that the pattern of agitation by some groups, especially that of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and its leader Nnamdi Kanu was capable of causing chaos, assured that Biafra would be achieved without blood.
10. Nigeria’s former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Allison-Madueke, has been reportedly accused of receiving a bribe, in order to awards contracts worth $1.5 billion.
Financial Times reports that Dieziani’s assets, a 200-foot yacht and a Manhattan condominium worth $144 million, have already been confiscated by US prosecutors.
