1. Some released Chibok girls, who were released by the Boko Haram insurgents, have appealed to the Federal Government to also give priority attention to the release of other abducted girls who are still under the captivity of the dreaded terrorists, but were not abducted from the government school in Chibok. Their leader, Miss Hauwa Ntakai said many other girls are in Boko Haram captivity going through extreme pain and suffering.
2. The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday said the ill-health of President Muhammadu Buhari does not mean the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) will retake presidency in 2019. This is contained in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi entitled “Re: ‘PDP Unveils Plans To Sack APC”.
3. Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, yesterday, ordered the arrest of some teachers involved in malpractices in the primary six school leaving certificate examination in Edo State. He said the aim is to ensure that basic education in the state improves.
4. The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has hailed the Federal Government for reversing the controversial merger of the Christian Religious Studies and the Islamic Religious Studies as a subject by the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC).
Pastor Adebayo Oladeji, Special Assistant on Media to CAN President, Rev Samson Olasupo Ayokunle, in a statement said the merger had been rejected long before the emergence of this government because it was done without the consent of all stakeholders.
5. Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina has described President Muhammadu Buhari as a reformed democrat who will not respond to those calling him all sorts of names in the past two years. Adesina, in a special feature titled; “President Muhammadu Buhari and the descendants of Shimei’’, described such people descendants of Shimei.
6. The Kogi State police command has arrested two suspected kidnappers and rescued a victim identified as Sunday Amupitan, who was bound and dumped in a car booth. The victim was said to have been abducted from his Surulere, Kabba residence on the 19th of July, tied up and dumped in the booth of a Honda car.
7. A bungalow under construction in Meran, Abule Egba axis of Lagos State has collapsed, killing a two-year-old girl and her 30-year-old mother. The two-year-old was identified as Bisoye while the mother whose body was also recovered from the rubble was identified by relatives as Basirat. A five-year-old girl was,however, rescued from the rubble by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, and other rescue agencies.
8. Chelsea Saturday defeated Arsenal 3-0 in Beijing. Michy Batshuayi scored twice after Willian had given the Premier League champions the lead, as Antonio Conte’s men secured victory in their second pre-season outing.
9. The Federal Government on Saturday received no fewer than 198 Nigerians illegally residing in Saudi Arabia at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport at about 10 am. Report says the 198 persons including women and children returned with their luggage on board a Med-View aircraft.
10. Troops of 103 Battalion, Operation LAFIYA DOLE, on Saturday night neutralized 3 female suicide bombers trying to infiltrate their location at Kawuri in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State. Brig. General Sani Usmam Kukasheka, Director Army Public Relations in a statement this morning said, the female suicide bombers were on a mission to cause mayhem when they were spotted by a vigilante group and shot by the army after several warnings issued out to them failed.
