1. The Nigeria’s senior national team, otherwise known as Super Eagles has qualified for the Russia 2018 World Cup after defeating the Chipolopolo of Zambia by a lone goal in Uyo, Akwa Ibon State on Saturday. Goal from Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi sent the Gernot Rohr’s men to their 6thworld cup appearance.

2. President Muhammadu Buhari, Senate President, Bukola Saraki, his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu and other football-loving Nigerians have congratulated the Super Eagles on their victory over the Chipolopolo of Zambia at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Saturday.

The President and other enthusiastic Nigerians, who described the hard-earned victory as “very sweet, soothing and a 57th Independence Anniversary gift to the nation,” applauded the nation’s senior men’s football team for the feat of making Nigeria the first African country to qualify for Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament, with a match left to play.

3. Nigerian Army on Saturday announced the deployment of troops for the commencement of Operation Crocodile Smile II in the six Niger Delta states.

Maj.-Gen. Enobong Udoh, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, who made this disclosure, said the exercise was not a show of force but a confidence-building patrol that seeks to reassure the people of Rivers state and the Niger Delta that the army was ready to work.

4. Founder and National Chairman of National Action Council (NAC), Dr. Olapade Agoro has stated that President Muhammadu Buhari cannot perform effectively.

While flaying the choice of some ministers, he added that the president was surrounded by “corrupt animals”.

5. Former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashid Ladoja has said that no one in the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) should stop Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose from contesting for Presidency in 2019, saying it’s the governor’s fundamental human rights to contest for the nation’s number one seat.

Ladoja, who visited Governor Fayose at the governor’s office in Ado-Ekiti yesterday, said Fayose was eminently qualified to contest for presidency in 2019 and no one should stop him.

6. The Delta State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has made nomination forms free for female politicians who would be running for elective positions in the forthcoming 2018 local government elections in the state.

The party said the decision was to encourage women in the state to actively participate in politics.

7. Fivee people were feared dead while scores sustained serious injuries on Saturday following a stampede at the entrance of Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

The fans who were desirous to watch a match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Chipolopo of Zambia were allegedly beaten by soldiers at the gates of the stadium with heavy sticks.

8. Traditional chiefs of Afaraukwu community in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State have asked the state government to assist them in finding out the whereabouts of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu and his parents.

They lamented that Kanu, his mother and father, who is the traditional ruler of the town, got missing following the September 10 invasion of Kanu’s community.

9. A former United States Ambassador to Nigeria, John Campbell, has described former President Goodluck Jonathan’s wife, Patience, as being arrogant and flamboyant when she was Nigeria’s first lady.

In a piece he wrote on Friday, ‘Nigerian President Buhari’s Sisyphean Efforts’, and posted on Council on Foreign Relations’ website, Campbell also wondered how Jonathan’s wife became wealthy having spent most of her life as a civil servant.

10. In entertainment, Peter Okoye, one half of former music duo P-Square has signed a partnership deal with Empire, an American distribution company and record label based in San Francisco, California, USA.

The singer, who now goes by the name ‘Mr. P’, shared the news on his Instagram page.
