1. The management of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has released mobilization timetable for 2017 Batch B. Online registration by foreign and locally trained Nigerian graduates will begin 23rd October and end on 12th of November. Prospective corps members are to start printing call up letters from 13th to 17th Nov., 2017.
2. The organised labour has rejected the resolution of the House of Representatives seeking a review of the minimum wage for Nigerian workers to N30,000 from its current N18,000. The President of the Trade Union Congress, Bobboi Kaigama, said yesterday that labour would not accept an amount lower than N56,000.
3. Family of the leader of proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has dismissed claims by Abia Commissioner of Police, Anthony Ogbizi that police recovered lethal weapons from his home. Emmanuel Kanu told newsmen that any weapon found within the premises must have been planted by security operatives. He accused the Commissioner of fabricating the story to justify the raid and also to appear as if he was working.
4. Former President, Goodluck Jonathan has said his administration cannot be investigated by the committee set up by the House of Representatives to look into how the budget allocated to the State House Medical Centre since 2015 was spent. Jonathan said he had nothing to do with the 2015 Budget before he handed over government to President Muhammadu Buhari on May 29 of the same year, hence he cannot be probed.
5. Former vice president, Atiku Abubakar while reacting to a comment by World Bank president, Jim Yong Kim, that President Muhammadu Buhari sought the institution’s support for Northern states, said restructuring would ensure equitable distribution of wealth to all states. He also commended World Bank for its partnership with the Federal Government.
6. The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Imohimi Edgal, has explained that the police transferred the case file of Hip Hop Star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, to outstate Criminal Investigation Department (CID, Yaba in Lagos because the response of Davido calls for suspicion. He said when he asked the artist whether he had anything to do with the deceased, Tagb after he left the bar, he said he was informed by his friends that the deceased had died.
7. The family of the leader of the proscribed IPOB, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, has petitioned the United Nations, the European Union and other foreign countries, accusing the Nigerian Army of looting valuables from their son’s home during a raid on October 8. Mr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, Kanu’s personal lawyer, signed the petition on behalf of the traditional head of Afaraukwu Ibeku, Umuahia, in Abia State, and Kanu’s father, Eze Isreal Okwu-Kanu.
8. Niger State Governor, Aliyu Babangida, has admitted that members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were behind the formation and registration of the Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance (APDA). He said the members actually thought of preparing alternative party for committed members, should the Supreme Court judgment became unfavourable for the party.
9. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, a former Governor of Anambra State, has advised people of the South East against allowing medical personnel of the Nigerian Military treat their children. Ezeife issued the advice in reaction to the commotion caused by the military’s free medical treatment in Anambra State. He said the Southeast people were capable of taking care of themselves, because they were rich to do so.
10. Counsel to billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike,also known as Evans, Olukoya Ogungbeje, has accused officers of the Inspector General of Police’s Intelligence Response Team of extorting over N50m and other valuables worth millions of naira from his clients. Ogungbeje made the claims in a petition to the Police Service Commission, PSC, National Assembly, the Inspector General of Police, the National Human Rights Commission, and Amnesty International. He also alleged that Evan’s girlfriend was molested sexually.
