1. Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Anti-Corruption (PACAC), Prof Itse Sagay, has fired back at those criticizing President Muhammadu Buhari, over his handling of allegations against top government officials.
Sagay said Buhari’s critics were being only “extremely unreasonable” and desperate to find fault over the reinstatement and disengagement of the former pension’s boss, Abdulrasheed Maina
2. Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has said that the massive looting of the nation’s resources by the immediate past administration of President Goodluck Jonathan is responsible for the economic crunch the country is experiencing under the present administration.
He specifically said that before the 2015 elections, the government of Goodluck Jonathan, doled out N100billion and $295million in cash within two weeks.
3. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has faulted the Federal Government’s involvement in the school feeding programme, saying it is essentially a programme that the states should execute.
4. The Chairman, Police Service Commission, Dr. Mike Okiro has stated that the case between Police IG, Ibrahim Idris and Senator Isa Hamma Misau has been buried.
He said the police had asked Misau to come and substantiate his allegation but he didn’t come, so they just let the matter die.
5. Kano State Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Ali Makoda, has said erosion destroyed over 200 graves at Tudun Murtala Graveyard in the Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state.
The commissioner, however, pledged to continue to give the facility all the necessary support, especially working materials.
6. More details have emerged on why the federal Civil Service Commission is yet to sack a former Chairman of the Presidential Taskforce on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina four days after President Muhammadu Buhari ordered for his immediate disengagement.
Reports have it that the process for disengaging a civil servant from the system, as laid down in the rules and regulations of the service, would require strict adherence to civil service rules.
7. Former member of Niger House of Assembly, Alhaji Ahmed Dogara, has admonished President Muhammadu Buhari to declare his position on the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ayo Oke.
Dogara said by making public pronouncements about the two suspended public officers, the presidency would send signal to public officers to desist from looting public treasury.
8. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has replied the Controller-General of Custom, Col. Hammed Ali, over his claim that the change agenda of the Muhammadu Buhari government had been hijacked by the former members of the party.
The party described members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as desperate people whose main agenda was to hijack government at all cost in 2015.
9. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has claimed that the two anti-corruption agencies he created during his tenure, have been politicized by his successors.
According to him, they turned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission (ICPC) to political entities.
10. The Nigerian Army on Saturday revealed that it has arrested no fewer than 399 suspects for various offences during the Exercise Crocodile Smile 2 in Lagos and Ogun States.
The 35 Artillery Brigade Commander, Brig.-Gen. Bassey Adonkie, gave this update while giving an appraisal of the exercise during the closing ceremony of the Crocodile Smile 2 at 192 Battalion, Ajilete, Ogun State.
