1. Politicians in Rivers State are being questioned at the State Criminal Investigation Department of the state Police Command over the Saturday’s clash between the motorcades of Governor Nyesom Wike and the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi. Report says a major disaster was averted when Amaechi and Wike met at a crossroad in Nwanja area of Elekahia road, Port Harcourt. The report claims there was a scuffle when they met but both Amaech and Wike escaped unhurt.

2. The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, has said that the law does not prevent him from marrying a serving female police officer. He challenged the lawmaker representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District, Senator Isa Misau, who accused him of having an affair with a junior female colleague, to prove that he was wrong in doing same.

3. The lawyer of the whistleblower who informed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of the $43m, N23.2m and £27,800 (N13bn) recovered from an Ikoyi apartment, Yakubu Galadima, has disclosed that his client was set to sue the Federal Government for fraud for its failure to pay him his 5 percent whistleblower’s compensation.

4. The World Internal Security and Police Index International has rated the Nigeria Police Force as the worst police organisation in the world. In its 2016 report, WISPI described the the nation’s police as the worst globally in terms of its ability to handle internal security challenges. Meanwhile, Singapore performed best on the ranking, followed by Finland, and Denmark.

5. In sports, captain of Argentina national team, Lionel Messi has confirmed he will play no part in Tuesday’s friendly against Nigeria in Krasnodar, Russia as he will be returning to his base in Barcelona, Spain ahead of his club’s Spanish La Liga fixture next weekend against Leganes.

6. Report has claimed that a 56-year-Fulani herdsman, Mohammed Abdulkadire, jumped into River Benue in the Logo Local Government Area of Benue State. The report claimed the deceased committed suicide after he lost 200 of his cows to hunger and lack of water.

7. Governor of Nigeria’s Central Bank (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has said that the nation’s external reserves will rise to $40 billion in 2018 to give room for a stronger naira. Emefiele also said that there would be change in monetary policy stance in 2018 following continuous decline in inflation rate. He made these projections in Lagos, Friday night, in a keynote address delivered at the annual Bankers Dinner of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN).

8. Former President, Goodluck Jonathan has described the reinstatement of Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina, former boss of the Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT) as a bold symptom that the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government has delivered more corruption than change to Nigerians. Jonathan stated this in a press statement issued on his behalf by his former Special Assistant on New Media, Reno Omokri.

9. Chelsea right-back, Victor Moses, has been nominated for the BBC African Footballer of the Year for 2017. The announcement was made on Saturday in London during a special live launch broadcast. Other nominees are Gabon and Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Guinea and RB Leipzig midfielder, Naby Keita, Senegal and Liverpool forward, Sadio Mane, and Egypt and Liverpool forward, Mohamed Salah.

10. The National Commandant of Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN), Dickson Akoh, has said his organization would resume duties at its headquarters on Monday. Reacting to a recent judgment in favour of the corps, the National Commandant said it has been 9 months since the office was sealed and with the recent court order, the Corps was ready to resume activities in the office on Monday. He said the court order given was a public pronouncement and public document.
