1. A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) known as the ‘Fresh PDP’ has agreed to collapse into the mainstream PDP led by Prince Uche Secondus.
The National chairman of the ‘Fresh PDP’ Olukayode Akindele, after a meeting with former national chairman of PDP, Okwesilieze Nwodo, on Saturday in Abuja, said the members have decided to collapse the parallel party in the interest of Nigeria and the 2019 general elections.
2. Sule Lamido, former Jigawa State Governor, has called on a national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, to dump the ruling party.
Lamido, a Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential aspirant, hinged his call on the claims in some quarters that President Muhammadu Buhari was only using Tinubu to achieve his second term ambition.
3. Former presidential candidate and publisher of Ovation Magazine, Dele Momodu, has written an open letter to Aisha Buhari.
Dele said he has never seen any wife of a Nigerian President who would openly criticise a government in which she is a major beneficiary.
4. Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the South East have rejected Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha as the zone’s chairman of the 15-man Campaign Council set up by Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi.
In a meeting called by the South East zonal Chairman, Chief Emma Eneukwu at the instance of Amaechi, the Zone’s Stakeholders rejected Governor Okorocha as the new chairman for the zone.
5. Youth groups in the Middle Belt have declared war on the rampaging Fulani herdsmen, saying they have signed their death warrant.
The National Council of Tiv Youths, NCTY, and the Middle Belt Youths Council, MBYC, said they will no longer fold their arms and watch their people being slaughtered by the cattle herders.
6. The family of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nmandi Kanu, has called the military to provide their brother and their parents HRH, Eze Kanu and his wife dead or alive. Spokesperson for the family, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, noted that they have been asking the Nigerian authorities to produce Nnamdi Kanu and their parents.
7. The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, yesterday said that one of the reasons Nigeria is a troubled nation is because its reward system had collapsed.
The Minister expressed the view that if ordinary Nigerians who distinguished themselves in character were recognised for national awards at the expense of politicians and moneybags, a solid foundation for the resuscitation of the country’s national values would have been laid
8. The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, has rejected the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo-led panel to find a lasting solution to clashes between herders and their host communities mainly in Benue and Taraba. The group strongly believes the Osinbajo- ed committee on killings by herdsmen would not produce the desired result with the inclusion of Ishaku and Samuel Ortom of Benue.
9. The spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum, NEF, Professor Ango Abdullahi, has faulted the recent endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari for second term by the All Progressives Congress, APC governors. He also described as corrupt, the adoption of the delegate system by political parties in primaries, noting that the system allows the aspirants by votes with huge sum of money from the delegates.
10. Olusegun Obasanjo, former President, on Saturday said poverty in Nigeria came as a result of the “choice made consciously or unconsciously by past leaders.” The former president noted that the first step towards getting Nigeria out of poverty is to make the right choice of leaders who understand development.
