Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Sunday morning

1. Several persons have been declared missing and many houses razed after suspected Fulani herdsmen launched attack on Nanev village in Uikpam, Guma LGA of Benue State, the country home of the state governor, Samuel Ortom.

The gunmen reportedly stormed the village, during the weekend, shooting sporadically into the air and setting over 23 houses on fire.

2. Suspected Fulani kidnappers operating in Nasarawa and other nearby states, yesterday, ambushed a team of police operatives from the Intelligence Response Squad, killing one of the operatives in Toto Local Government Area of the state.

The police team ran into the ambush by suspected Fulani kidnappers who had pinned down in the bush waiting to kidnap a white foreign national.

3. General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor E.A Adeboye, at the weekend condemned killing of innocent Nigerians nationwide.

Leading his congregation in prayers, at the February 2018 Holy Ghost Service tagged, “Stronger than your enemies – Part 2”, held at the Redemption Camp, Adeboye asked the congregation, which included the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, to pray that God should expose those shedding blood and their sponsors.

4. Bello Abdullahi Bodejo, President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Socio-cultural Association, has warned against any attempt to remove President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.

Bodejo said the eyes of the Fulanis all over the country were ‘opened,’ stressing that Buhari was hated because of them.

5. The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari has again proved that his government is nothing short of an apartheid regime which does not belong to all, except the Fulanis.

The Media and Publicity Secretary of IPOB, Comrade Emma Powerful, in a statement issued on Saturday frowned at what he called the humiliation and arrest of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Gboko police station in Benue State, Bur Dooior, for allegedly failing to use police resources to protect invading Fulani herdsmen.

6. The Kano State government said it arrested no fewer than 94 beggars in Kano metropolis for allegedly violating the law banning street begging in the state.

Dahiru Nuhu, the officer in charge of Anti-Begging Unit of the state’s Hisbah Board, revealed that 24 of the street-beggars were children, while 70 were adults.

7. The Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, WorldWide led by Comrade Oweilaemi Rolland Pereotubo, on Saturday warned President Muhammadu Buhari not to push Nigeria to a needless civil war with the relaunch of “Operation Crocodile Smile III” in the Niger Delta Region.

He said IYC will resist any attempt to relaunch what he termed ‘barbaric military drill’ in Ijaw land.

8. The National Emergency Management Agency has attributed the delay in evacuating the fourth batch of stranded Nigerians in Libya to the activities of militant groups in the North African country.

NEMA explained that though three batches had been evacuated from Libya since the exercise began, the evacuation of the fourth batch was delayed as a result of shootout among militant groups at the airport in Tripoli, the capital of the North African country.

9. The All Progressives Congress has said President Muhammadu Buhari will receive the final report of its panel on true federalism, after inputs from relevant organs of the party.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi, explained that the Governor Nasir El-Rufai-led committee would have to first submit the report to the party’s national working committee for necessary input before presenting the details to the public.

10. The final of this year’s African Nations Championship, will be contested between hosts Morocco and Nigeria on Sunday.

The game will be played in Casablanca today, by 8pm (Nigerian time).
