1. President Muhammadu Buhari is scheduled to fly out of Nigeria today on a two-day working visit to the Kingdom of Morocco. According to a statement by his media aide, Garba Shehu, the visit, which is at the invitation of His Royal Majesty, King Mohammed VI, will see the two leaders discussing socio-economic matters affecting their countries.
2. The African Democratic Congress, ADC, which has been adopted by former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has warned the Federal Government of Nigeria that it will shut down the Presidential Villa if the ex-president is harmed. The Chairman of the ADC, Chief Okey Nwosu, said having failed to deliver on its campaign promises, the Buhari-led government had resorted to bullying opposition members into submission.
3. A gubernatorial contender in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun state, Hon. Albert Adeogun, on Friday stepped down his ambition for Senator Ademola Adeleke, ahead of the party’s primaries. Addressing a press conference after a consultative meeting held inside the residence of a PDP chieftain, Chief Abiola Morakinyo, said his decision to drop his gubernatorial ambition, was as a result of wide consultation with stakeholders and the need to record electoral victory for the opposition during the election.
4. The gang that kidnapped yet-to-be ascertained number of persons along the Birnin Gwari- Kaduna road have placed a demand of N1 million on each of those in their custody. Report says the abductors made phone contact with the officials of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, on Saturday to demanded for N1 million on each person.
5. The Lagos State Government on Saturday declared June 12, 2018 as public holiday to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the annulled 1993 presidential election adjudged to have been won by the late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola. The state governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode declared this in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tunji Bello. Also the Ogun State government has declared Tuesday, 12 June, 2018 work-free day to enable residents and other stakeholders mark the Democracy Day.
6. The apex Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, has reacted to the claim by a former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, that President Muhammadu Buhari wants to harm him. Afenifere called on the President Buhari government to lower the rising tension in the country, saying the tension was becoming worrisome.
7. A male suicide bomber who was heading towards Monday Market in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, upon sighting the massive Police deployment at Oando petrol station in Post Office area detonated the improvised explosive device strapped to his body, killing himself. The incident occurred on Saturday. Borno State Police Command immediately deployed men of the EOD to sanitize the scene.
8. A petrol dealer based in Ekiti State, Mr. D. Alalade and his wife, have been kidnapped by unknown gunmen. Alalade, is the Manager of one of the BOVAS Petroleum and Gas Limited Filling stations in the State. Report says the couple were kidnapped at Efon Alaaye in Efon Local Government area at about 4pm on Friday.
9. Four persons have been feared dead and six others injured after a building collapsed in Zaria, Kaduna State. The affected two storeyed-building was still under construction when it collapsed, at Unguwar Kaya in Zaria Local Government Area.
10. The New Peoples Democratic Party, nPDP, has given conditions to return to the negotiation table with the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC. The Kawu Baraje-led defunct nPDP said negotiations will only commence if they are assured of an environment devoid of fear and intimidation.
