1. Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that the recent defection of some Senators from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, would not affect the chances of President Muhammadu Buhari’s reelection in 2019.
Amaechi boasted that the President win the election even on a sick bed.
2. A former Governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The former governor defected to the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, to contest for the governorship seat in the 2019 general elections.
3. Senate President, Bukola Saraki has responded to the comment attributed to the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, where he was quoted as saying that Saraki leads the worst senate Nigeria ever had.
Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, Saraki described El-Rufai as a careless talker who is suffering from diarrhoea of the mouth.
4. A former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olabode George has warned that Nigeria could be heading into another civil war with the current spate of killings across the country.
He said his former boss in the military; President Muhammadu Buhari had failed to protect lives of Nigerians, adding that elders like him must not sit down and watch as things get out of hand
5. The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has fined DAAR Communications (owners of AIT and Raypower FM) N500, 000 over alleged persistent violation of the provisions of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.
NBC Head of Public Affair, Mrs Maimuna Jimada, said that the organisation was sanctioned due to provocative, inflammatory and divisive comments by anchors of its progamme.
6. Olusegun Olaleye, a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly representing Ibadan North II state constituency, has left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking at the Ward 11, Ibadan North Local Government, Olaleye described the switch of allegiance as “a return to Canaan, the promised land”.
7. The remains of former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu, have been committed to mother earth on Saturday in Tse Alu, Ushongo Local Government Area of Benue State.
In their separate speeches, former President, Goodluck Jonathan, Chief Justice of Nigeria, Honourable Justice Walter Samuel Onnoghen and Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom represented by his Secretary to the State Government, Professor Tony Ijohor (SAN), said the late CJN Katsina-Alu was an asset, not just to Benue but Nigeria and the outside world.
8. The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has raised the alarm over fresh plot by agents of the federal government to allegedly re-arrest four of its members who were recently granted bail after three years of being in prison.
The group said it has uncovered plot by the military to invade the South-east and some part of South-south again, adding that part of the plan would be to re-arrest its members who were recently granted bail by the Justice Binta Nyako-led court in Abuja.
9. The Nigerian community in South Africa has confirmed the killing of Mr Chibuzo Nwankwo, a 42-year-old member of the community, from Enugu State.
Mr Habib Miller, the Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Union in South Africa said that Nwankwo’s death brings to 121 the number of Nigerians killed in South Africa since January 2016.
10. Thirteen out of the 23 local government chairmen in Benue State have dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party.
The chairmen include: Anthony Shawon of Guma local government, Justina Sorka of Buruku local government, Mwuese Ubebe of Konshisha local government, Blessing Unogwo of Ado local government, Virginia Kpindi of Katsina-Ala local government and George Alli of Otukpo local government.
