1. Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has disclosed that South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, has agreed that his country had indeed erred and his government was making frantic efforts to correct the mistake following the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians. Obasanjo also said Ramaphosa concur that there was an urgent need for Nigeria and South Africa to establish a Bilateral Commission.
2. Secretary-General, Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Anthony Sani has kicked against the notion in some quarters that power should shift to the South in 2023. He said that there is no national consensus on rotation of the president between regions or among zones.
3. President Muhammadu Buhari at the weekend sacked Chairman, Investment and Securities Tribunal (IST), Siaka Isiah Idoko-Akoh. A senior official of the tribunal, Mr. J. I. Udunni, has been appointed to replace him. Idoko-Akoh had squabbles with workers on many occasions bothering on emolument payment.
4. Alhaji Mohammed Kabir, a former chairman of Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, has said that the Igbo should be forgiven and should be allowed to rule the country in 2023.
5. Some eminent Yoruba leaders have warned against any arbitrary attempt to stampede the embattled Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo out of office as the fraud allegation levelled against the VP continues to make waves in the polity and in the media.
6. The Presidency has said that First Lady, Aisha Buhari’s absence in the country for about two months was not due to any infighting in Aso Villa. This follows speculations that Aisha is unable to pull her weight round the Villa lately and uncomfortable with how government affairs were being handled by an existing cabal.
7. President Muhammadu Buhari has explained that he decided not to hand over power to Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo when he travelled to the United Kingdom on a private visit from April 25 to May 5, 2019 because the constitution did not require him to hand over unless he was staying out of the country for more than 21 days.
8. President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the alleged torture and child abuse of students at an Islamic centre at Rigasa, Kaduna, which the police raided on Thursday. Over 300 adults and children, many of whom were chained by the authorities of the school, were freed by the police.
9. The Catholic Laity Council of Nigeria (CLCN) has called for the restructuring of Nigeria for efficient management of security situation in the country. The council said it is the option if the present structure of the nation has proved too difficult for agencies to handle.
10. The Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) has blocked all improperly registered SIM card numbers. The commission said the affected numbers stopped working since 11:59pm of Wednesday, 25th of September. It noted that according to the report submitted by the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC on Thursday, 26th September, a total of 2,277,311 improperly registered lines have been blocked.
