Nigerian newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Sunday morning

Good morning! Here are ten thing you need to know this morning:

1.Despite agitations by many Nigerians that the 2015 elections hold as scheduled, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Saturday night postponed the general elections to March 28 and April 11 for the presidential/ National Assembly elections and governorship / state House of Assembly elections respectively.

2. The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has described the postponement of the 2015 elections as a dangerous move against the nation’s democracy. He however disclosed that an emergency meeting has been scheduled by the APC to look into the legality of the postponement.

3. The Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was on Saturday formally presented with the staff of office as the 14th Emir of Kano. The presentation was done by the Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso. However, President Goodluck Jonathan was conspicuously absent at the coronation that was attended by many Nigerians.

4. Captain Sagir Koli of the 32nd Artillery Brigade in Ekiti State, the brain behind an audio recording which purportedly has the voice of the the Ekiti state governor, Ayo Fayose, in the June 21 governorship election and others planning on how to manipulate the elections had on Saturday, insisted that the clip was authentic. He reiterated his position in a new interview with Sahara TV.

5. The Chairman of the House of Representative Committee on Public Accounts and Senatorial Candidate of the APC for Lagos West, Hon. Solomon Adeola has faulted the comment of the Auditor General of the Federation, Mr. Ukura Samuel on the forensic audit report by PriceWaterHouseCoopers on the missing NNPC $20billion as submitted to President Goodluck Jonathan, saying that he has no locus standi to comment on the audit report as he was not the one that appointed the firm of PriceWaterHouseCoopers.

6. Officers of the Nigeria Police from the Kwara State Command have intercepted a truck loaded with ammunition at Kosubosu, a border town in the Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State. Report says cartons of cartridges hidden in a section of the truck, two AK 47 rifles, two locally fabricated pistols and 22 rounds of AK47 ammunition were recovered from the abandoned golf car.

7. The United States Secretary of State, Mr. John Kerry, has expressed disappointment over the postponement of the Nigerian general elections. According to Kerry, it was wrong to use insecurity as a reason for political interference in INEC matters.

8. The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation, PDPPCO, has described the postponement of the 2015 elections as a welcome development. Commending INEC on the decision, PDPPCO’s Director of Media and Publicity, Femi Fani Kayode said it was the right step in the right direction.
