1. Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi, was Sunday evening sacked by the Nigerian Football Federation over allegation of ‘double dealing’. The NFF said that Keshi was guilty of applying for Ivory Coast coaching job while serving as the coach of the Super Eagles. This was contained in a statement by the NFF Executive Committee on Saturday.
2. Report says a popular businessman and politician in Aliero, headquarters of Aliero local government area of Kebbi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Lemi, has been killed by some unknown gunmen.
3. The Presidency has boasted that it can only negotiate with Boko Haram insurgents from the position of strength and not that of weakness. It said the government was ready to use its might and new strategies to exterminate the insurgents, but will consider any proposal from the insurgents for negotiation. This was contained in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina.
4. The APC State Chairmen on Saturday in Abuja, passed a vote of confidence on President Muhammadu Buhari. They declared that they have endorsed his leadership style. This was disclosed by the spokesman of the 37 state chairmen of the APC, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Alhaji Umar Doruwa.
5. Kano State Government had on Saturday debunked media reports that Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje has banned Christians in the state from going to church on Sundays. The denial was contained in a statement by the state Commissioner for Information, Mallam Muhammad Garba, who said the report was false and unfounded.
6. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has denied media reports that Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State had to wait for hours during his visit to the national secretariat on Thursday. The party’s National Publicity Secretary in a statement on Saturday described the story as “totally false and mischievous,” saying the governor only arrived at the secretariat few minutes before the arrival of the Acting National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus.
7. Report equally has it that President Muhammadu Buhari has sacked his Chief Security Officer, CSO, Mr. Abdulrahman Mani, for having engaged in supremacy battle with his Aide-de-Camp, Lt.-Col. Lawal Abubakar.
8. A large cache of ammunitions and sports utility vehicle have been recovered by the Nigerian Army in Zabarmari Muna, near Maiduguri, Borno State while conducting operations after series of suicide bomb attacks. This was disclosed by the Defence Headquarters in a statement issued in Abuja by the Director of Defence, Maj.-Gen. Chris Olukolade.
9. The U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr James Entwistle has said that the United States of America was the best friend to the people of Nigeria. Entwistle stated this in his remarks on the 239th Independence Anniversary of the U.S., which was marked at the U.S. Embassy in Abuja.
10. The South East caucus in the Senate yesterday condemned the transfer of Boko Haram detainees to the Ekwulobia Prison, saying the prisoners must be relocated in the interest of peace. Speaking in Abuja on behalf of the caucus, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa (Abia North) argued that there was no justifiable reason for the transfer of the detainees to a state far away from where the suspects were arrested.
