1. No fewer than 200 persons have been confirmed dead after a Russian plane crashed in Egypt. The plane, which was carrying passengers from the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, crashed in Central Sinai, killing all those on board.
2. Lagos State government has shut Marina Workers Mosque, Lagos Island over poor sewage management. It was gathered that the religious house violated the state environmental law by not observing the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.
3. Despite the frustrating circumstances in Nigeria, the country is still united due to God’s grace, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye has said. Daddy GO, as he’s fondly called, stated this during a special programme for the country, held under the theme, ‘Free Indeed,’ at the national headquarters of the RCCG in Ebute-Metta, Lagos.
4. The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Olisa Metuh has taken a swipe at his APC counterpart, Lai Mohammed, saying that he (Mohammed) would end up becoming a minister without portfolio. He said the APC spokesperson was too quarrelsome and lacked manner.
5. The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC Lai Mohammed, has stated that with persons like Olisa Metuh, the Peoples Democratic Party cannot survive. Mohammed said Metuh had shown, time and again, that he lacked the temperament, presence of mind, sobriety, analytical mind, decency in the use of language.
6. President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that he’s not selective in his fight against corruption. Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, India, President Buhari said those who accuse his administration of being selective would not say so if they were not involved in corruption, but rather encourage the government to get whoever had compromised in his position.
7. Former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Farida Waziri has called for a drastic diversification of Nigeria’s economy through policies that will boost agricultural productivity and industrial output for the nation’s socio-economic development. She gave this charge in Makurdi, Benue State capital while commissioning the World Bank Africa Centre of Excellence Project, Centre for Food Technology and Research.
8. Tongues are beginning to wag over the absence of President Muhammadu Buhari and his vice, Yemi Osinbajo at the All Progressives Congress (APC) grand rally in Lokoja, Kogi State to drum support for the candidature of Prince Abubakar Audu in the November 21 governorship election. The president and his vice were not present during the rally, which took place at the Lokoja International Stadium.
9. The remains of His Royal Highness, Alhaji Haliru Dantoro, Kitoro lll, Mai Borgu of Borgu Kingdom of Niger State would be laid to rest in New Bussa, Niger state today. The first class Emur and one time Senator and Minister of the Fededral Republic of Nigeria died in a German hospital on Friday after a brief illness at the age of 78.
10. In sport, Nigeria’s Under 17 team, the Golden Eaglets would today by 8pm battle three-time champions Brazil for a place in the semi-final of the ongoing Fifa U-17 World Cup in Chile.
