2. About 23 militants were killed while 38 camps and 91 illegal refineries as well as bunkering sites were destroyed in the just concluded military exercise in the Niger Delta Region tagged “Crocodile Smile.” This was disclosed by the General Commanding Officer (GOC) of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu, Major-General Ibrahim Attahiru.
3. A large cache of ammunition at a residential area of Bulabulin Ngarnam, Borno State were Saturday recovered by troops on Operation LAFIYA DOLE deployed in the outskirts of Maiduguri. The ammunition include 3 sealed boxes of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition, 3 jerry cans containing various ammunition, 2 sacks containing 5,998 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition and 1, 760 rounds of 5.56mm SS109 calibre of ammunition.
4. Four residents of. Leki Garden Estate in the Isheri area of Lagos State were on Saturday kidnapped by some unknown gunmen. Report says the gunmen invaded the community through the waterways around 8am and shot sporadically before whisking the victims away.
5. Report says the Chairman of Atlantic Energy Drilling Concept Nigeria Limited, Mr. Jide Omokore, has returned N200m to the Federal Government. The report further claimed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has also traced and frozen eight bank accounts allegedly belonging to Omokore.
6. Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has advised the federal government to sell off the Nigerian Liquified Natural Gas company, NLNG, and other dormant but huge capital-generating sectors in the country if it must come out of the current recession.
7. Nigerian athletes representing the country at the 2016 Paralympic Games, may finish the competition with a total of 12 medals. A breakdown shows Team Nigeria won 8 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals and may likely finish in 12th place overall when all events are concluded.
8. The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Saturday, alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari was more interested in the well being of his cattle in Daura, Katsina State than the welfare of Nigerians, saying the Nigerian President was neglecting the Igbos as he has not visited Igboland since assumption of office.
9. The Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders, CACOL, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to immediately invite the wife of the immediate past President, Goodluck Jonathan for questioning over the allegations of money laundering involving herself, her aides and some Skye Bank officials.
10. The Ekiti State government has said its performance in the recently released NECO exams was well deserving. The state Commissioner for Education, Mr Jide Egunjobi said the radical measures by the State Government to change the face of education in the State was responsible.
