1. The Civil Rights Realisation and Advancement Network, CRRAN, has called for thorough investigation into the controversial sex video of the Miss Anambra Beauty Pageant. The group asked the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons to look into the alleged suspected case of sexual exploitation and trafficking involved in the contest.
2. The Kaduna State Police Command on Saturday said it had arrested 14 suspects who allegedly attempted to disrupt Friday prayer at the Sultan Bello Mosque, Kaduna. The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Aliyu Usman, disclosed that the suspects were arrested with machetes and knives.
3. A report has now revealed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has invited four more Senior Advocates of Nigeria for questioning over alleged transfer of undisclosed sums of money to the bank accounts of some judges currently under investigation. The transferred funds were allegedly meant to bribe the judges in order to manipulate judgment.
4. A former Chairman, Petroleum Products Prices Regulatory Agency, PPPRA, and Minister of National Planning, Chief Rasheed Gbadamosi, has said President Muhammadu Buhari cannot do anything to better the current economic situation in the country, He said that his cabinet members are even frightened by the recession, hence there is no hope for a better economy.
5. Following the news that President Muhammadu Buhari’s nephew, Alhaji Mamman Daura, is a major power player in the Buhari-led government, the President has stressed that he, not Daura, is in charge of the Presidency. Buhari said two people cannot be in charge of a government.
6. Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, on Saturday declared that his tenure as President produced 25 billionaires among whom is Africa’s richest woman, Mrs Forunsho Alakija. While reacting to Alakija’s allegation of exploitation by Obj’s administration at the 2016 Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Forum in Lagos, Obasanjo said Alakija was one of those he made.
7. The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Saturday declared that the sovereign state of Biafra when actualised will not be a member of the Organisation of Islamic Countries, OIC, but that it will welcome the Shiite movement. In their statement, the group said it will not entertain Sharia law in any form.
8. Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr, has called up 24 players for Nigeria’s 2018 World Cup qualifying game against Algeria in Uyo. Arsenal’s Iwobi and Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho, who both scored in the Eagles last win against Zambia made the list.
9. A member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the All Progressives Congress, APC, General Joseph Okoloagu (retd), has alleged that one of the judges currently being investigated over corruption had requested for N250 from him, sasing that President Muhammadu Buhari’s fight against corruption was real and justified.
10. The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has revealed that those against his continued stay as national chairman of the ruling party were politicians scheming to take over control of the APC ahead of the 2019 elections. While speaking in Sokoto, Oyegun said he will resist attempt by some persons to control the party.
