Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Sunday morning

1. Following his controversial sermon where he asked members of his ministry to slaughter any Fulani Herdsmen seen within his church premises, the General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide, Apostle Johnson Suleiman, has been invited by the Department of State Services at its National Headquarters in Abuja.

The cleric, who barely escaped being arrested few days ago in Ekiti State is expected to appear before the security forces for interrogation on Monday.

2. The embattled Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Mrs. Jumoke Akindele, has declared that she still remains the Speaker of the house despite her suspension.

Akindele was on Friday suspended by 14 members of the state assembly following accusations of financial misappropriation. Mr. Malachi Coker from Ilaje Constituency 1 was appointed as the acting speaker.

3. To further put to rest the media reports that President Muhammadu Buhari was dead, the presidency during the week released new images of the president on vacation in London.

A Facebook user, Buhari Sallau, who uploaded the new images on his wall captioned it thus: “Today in London President Muhammadu Buhari with some guests, among them Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun…. yet, Some Haters are saying the President is dead or sick in hospital.”‎

4. Elder statesman and second Republic lawmaker, Junaid Mohammed, has slammed Federal Government over its claim that it has defeated the Boko Haram insurgents.

Mohammed insisted that the insurgent group “is alive and well.”

5. Boko Haram Terrorists on Saturday morning ambushed troops of the Operation Lafiya Dole escorting commercial vehicles from Maiduguri to Damboa around Bulabulin area in Borno State killing 8 civilians.

The attack, which took place at about 11am also saw two soldiers killed while 2 commercial vehicles were also said to have been hijacked by the terrorists and driven into the dreaded Sambisa forest area.

6. President Muhammudu Buhari has called on Nigerians to bear with his administration despite the hardship caused by the ongoing economic quagmire.

He assured that current economic situation in Nigeria would be a thing of the past soon.

7. Immediate past governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, on Saturday faulted those saying President Muhammadu Buhari, who is on vacation in the United Kingdom, has passed on.

Oshiomhole, told newsmen in Iyamho, Estako-West Local Government, shortly after voting during Saturday’s House of Representatives by-election for Etsako federal constituency, that the dust generated by the vacation was unnecessary.

9. Gunmen have abducted a Catholic priest in-charge of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Eku in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, Rev. Fr. Joseph Oghenekevwe Ojakorotu.

Ojakorotu was said to have been kidnapped by the gunmen, who had placed a N10m ransom tag on him.

He was kidnapped along the Sapele-Eku Road in Sapele Local Government Area while returning from a journey to Eku on Friday.

10. Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has revealed that he officially wrote to President Muhammadu Buhari asking that the two armoured helicopters bought by the immediate past administration in the state be handed over to the Nigerian Air Force.

He explained that he wrote the letter following the high custom duty charged for the helicopters and the refusal of the current administration to grant the Rivers State Government the waiver to clear the two armoured helicopters.
