1. The Senator representing Bayelsa East constituency, Ben Bruce, has accepted the Friday’s Appeal Court judgment, which upheld Ali Modu Sheriff as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party. Bruce said he was tired of the lingering crisis rocking the party, adding that he was ready to work with the Sheriff-led PDP.
2. The Nigerian Army has warned any soldier who is not satisfied with what he is getting as benefits for serving the country to do himself a favour by voluntarily resigning from the Nigerian Army. It also warned social media users in the country, against making spurious and unfounded allegations bordering on payment of troops operations allowances.
3. Report says the presidential panel set up by President Muhammadu Buhari to probe arms procurement between 2007 and 2015 has been dissolved. The report says the panel was scrapped because government believed it had outlived its usefulness.
4. The Peoples Democratic Party’s National Chairman, Senator Ali-Modu Sheriff has vowed to push Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State and the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike out of the party. While reacting to the Friday judgment that declared him the authentic party chairman, Sheriff said machinery that would not give room to people like Wike and Fayose in any future arrangement in the party would be put in place.
5. Chocolate City Chief Executive Officer, Audu Maikori, who was arrested on Friday by the police, regained his freedom on Saturday after he was released by security agents. Maikori was apprehended in Lagos over his tweets in January where he alleged that five students of College of Education, Gidan-Waya, were killed by Fulani herdsmen.
6. Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye has said that additional eight private health facilities in Ogun State have been shut down following the refusal of the owners to validate and register the facilities. Ipaye, who stated this while monitoring the level of compliance of the revalidation and registration of health facilities at Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the State, said that with the closure of the facilities, it had brought the total number of facilities so far sealed in the State to 168.
7. Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo has signed seven bills into law. The Bills are Oaths (Amendment) Act, 2017; Defence Space Administration Act, 2017; Veterinary Surgeons (Amendment) Act, 2017; National Film and Video Censors Board (Amendment) Act, 2017; Pension Rights of Judges (Amendment) Act, 2017; Nigeria Institute of Soil Science (Establishment, etc.) Act, 2017; and Mortgage Institutions (Amendment)Act, 2016.
8. Hundreds of youths in Daura Local Government Area of Katsina state on Saturday, organised a rally in solidarity with President Muhammadu Buhari. The youths, under the auspices of ‘Buhari Youth Congress for Change also held marathon prayers for the nation’s leader.
9. Chelsea, Saturday evening, defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 in the Emirates FA Cup to maintain their hopes of achieving a domestic double this season. Pedro Rodriguez and Diego Costa scored for the Blues to qualify for the quarter-finals of the competition.
10. Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has said that Ahmed Makarfi remains the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), until the Supreme Court decides otherwise. In a statement released in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday, he said the Makarfi faction has already appealed the court’s ruling.
