1. Former President, Goodluck Jonathan has dismissed claims by political leaders who responded in a book written by the Chairman of the Editorial Board of ThisDay, Mr. Segun Adeniyi, saying those who responded distorted the truth on what actually transpired. Jonathan, on his twitter handle on Saturday, said he would give further details on what transpired in 2015 election.
2. Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Saturday, accused the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, of planning to raid his private house in Asokoro, Abuja. According Wike, the IG’s plan was for the police to raid his residence in Abuja after planting incriminating items there, adding that he was not staying in the house and did not keep anything there.
3. Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has said that he will not apologise for treading on people’s toes while he was the president of the country between 1999 and 2007. Obasanjo who was speaking at an event in Lagos said he did what he had to do and had no regrets.
4. The police has arrested six persons in connection with the recent assassination attempt on the life of Senator Representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye. Addressing newsmen on Saturday while parading the suspects, the Force PRO, Moshood Jimoh said the suspects were arrested by crack team of the force deployed by the IGP during the week. Jimoh said those arrested were Taofiq Isah, chairman Ijumu LGA Kogi State and his orderly, Sgt Ede James. one Ade Obage, Abdullahi Isah a.k.a Eko, Ahmed Ajayi and Michael Bamidele .
5. The Nigeria Labour Congress has asked the Federal Government to constitute the committee that will determine the new minimum wage in the country before May 1, 2017. According to the General Secretary of the NLC, Dr. Peter Ozo-Eson, the congress would take an action if the government failed to constitute the committee.
6. Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) said it had so far registered 1.5 million candidates for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) nationwide. The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, said this on Saturday during pre-JAMB mock examinations.
7. Britain’s Anthony Joshua defeated veteran Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko in a world heavyweight title fight epic at Wembley on Saturday. Joshua emerged victorious on an 11th round stoppage. With the new victory, the 27-year-old British fighter has now taken his record to 19 wins in 19 fight.
8. Nigerian Sand Eagles last night came from behind to defeat Mexico 5-4 in extra time of their Group B clash at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Bahamas. The Mexicans were already heading to victory with a 3-0 lead before the Eagles leveled and scored the winner at the extra time.
9. Political leaders from the South East have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to consider the geopolitical zone for the post of Secretary to the Federal Government. Frontline Igbo leader and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, said Buhari should consider Ndigbo for the position just to reverse the belief that the administration was marginalizing the Igbos.
10. Global Youth Peace Empowerment and Development Initiative (OGYPEDI) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to step down and concentrate on his failing health. The National Coordinator of the group, Mr.Japhet Omene made the statement yesterday in Osogbo during the organisation’s emergency meeting on state of the nation.
