Nigerian newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Saturday morning

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday expressed hope that God will give Nigerians the patience to tolerate his government. Speaking at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Buhari insisted that his administration had been doing its best to overcome challenges it inherited from its predecessor. He assured that serious work has just begun.

2. The Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS, has told a Federal High Court sitting Abuja, that a suspended justice of the Supreme Court, Sylvester Ngwuta, used two similar standard international passports interchangeably. A senior staff of NIS, Tanko Kutana, made the claim while being cross-examined by counsel for the defendant, Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN.

3. Three suspected cases of the dreaded Monkey Pox have been reported in Rivers State. This is according to the Commissioner for Health in Rivers state, Professor Princewill Chike, who disclosed this to newsmen in Port Harcourt. Professor Chike said the state government was watching the victims even as they have been placed under surveillance.

4. As the death of Tagbo Umeike, Davido’s friend, continues to generate controversies, different versions concerning his death have started rolling in. While some reports have claimed that Tagbo died after taking 50 shots of tequila in competition for N200,000, other reports claimed he only took 10 shots and passed out.

5. A Magistrate with Kogi State Judiciary, Mr Sam Unwuchola, was on Fridayabducted by unknown gunmen on Ajaokuta-Lokoja road. Report claims the magistrate who was returning from Onyedega, his station, in company of a friend, was kidnapped at Jimgbe, near Salem University, Lokoja at about 7pm Thursday. The kidnappers have already demanded 100 million Naira ransom.

6. President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, approved the appointments of the Governing Board of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA). This was contained in a statement issued by the Assistant Director (Press) in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mohammed Nakorji. Mr. Tunde Lemo is the Chairman of the Board.

7. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested two suspects, Kabiru Adamu and Hashimu Mohammed, for allegedly engaging in employment fraud. They were nabbed after series of complaints against them by some victims whom they duped under the pretense of offering them recruitment into the Nigerian Army.

8. The Bursar of the University of Calabar, Mrs. Beatrice Igwe and her husband, Mr Igwe and the Protocol Officer of the Institution have been arrested for alleged plans to kidnap the wife and daughter of the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the institution.

Report claims that though, the alleged kidnap was yet to be fully executed, the Police Public Relation Officer, ASP Irene Ugbo confirmed the arrest of the suspects, explaining that the police acted fast on receiving the information.

9. The Management of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Friday lost its newly posted Northeast Zonal Coordinator, Alhaji Abdulsalam Muhammed in Maiduguri. A statement from Alhaji Sani Datti, Head Media and Public Relations said, the deceased coordinator was redeployed to Maiduguri about three weeks ago to take charge of the Northeast zonal office after having served in the North central zone, Jos Plateau State in the same capacity.

10. Head coach of the Zambian national team, Wedson Nyirenda, has expressed optimism that his side will defeat the Super Eagles today in Uyo, even without his key players who have been ruled out due to injuries. He told the media in Uyo that the players on ground were up to task and could break the hearts of Nigerians.
