1. Several persons were feared killed during the week after Boko Haram sect attacked Rann, the headquarters of Kala Balge local government area of Borno State, sources said.
It was gathered that a village, where hundreds of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and humanitarian workers are camping, suddenly came under serious attack by armed Boko Haram gunmen.
2. Former President, Goodluck Jonathan, has been appointed as head of a team of observers to Sierra Leone’s general election scheduled to take place on March 7, 2018.
He will serve as leader of the Election Observation Mission of the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA).
3. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) fact finding team on alleged underage voting during February 10th council poll in Kano Friday dismissed the video footage as product that emanated from Kenya.
Briefing Reporters in Kano, the Chairman of the committee, Engr. Abubakar Nahuce, said “all we have seen in the social media were pictures and videos that are not verifiable, some of them are not even in Nigeria, some are from Kenya elections which people are attributing to Nigeria,”
4. An investigator with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Orji Chukwuma, on Friday told a Federal High Court in Lagos how former President Goodluck Jonathan allegedly instructed his ex-aide, Waripamo-Owei Dudafa, to receive 10 suitcases from his ADC and to keep same in the presidential bedroom.
During cross examination by Mr. Ige Ashimudara, (lawyer to the second defendant) before Justice Mohammed Idris, Chukwuma said that the defendant wrote a statement where he recalled Jonathan called him and instructed that he should receive the suitcases.
5. The Ohanaeze Youth Council, OYC, Friday, threatened to drag the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to court over reported case of underage voting in Kano State.
OYC national president, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro after its emergency meeting, said it would challenge the INEC until the proper thing was done.
6. The acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has claimed that the Senate refused to confirm him, because he is carrying out his duties judiciously.
Magu insisted he was not bothered by the delay in his confirmation.
7. Aisha Wakil, better known as “Mama Boko Haram”, has claimed that the insurgent group has contacted her, confirming they have in their custody the abducted 110 Dapchi school girls.
Wakil stated that the abductors confirmed to her that the girls were safe and in good condition.
8. Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Audu Ogbeh says Thailand has accused Nigeria of being responsible for the collapse of its seven rice mills following the drastic fall in rice importation from the country.
The minister at a meeting of the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative (PFI) and the Fertiliser Producers and Suppliers of Nigeria (FEPSAN) held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Friday Nigeria’s import has fallen by 95 per cent on rice alone.
9. University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) says despite the killing and incarceration of its lecturers for over eight months, it will work with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to resume oil exploration activities.
A statement by the NNPC Spokesman, Mr Ndu Ughamadu on Friday in Abuja, said the institution pledged its readiness during a visit to the NNPC led by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Ibrahim Njodi.
10. Founder, Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, Dr Fredrick Fasehun, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress, APC, have failed Nigerians and do not deserve second term.
Fasehun said this while attacking the National Chairman of the APC John Odigie-Oyegun and Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello for describing Buhari as a Messiah.
