Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Saturday morning

1. Four explosions, Friday night, ripped through Muna Garage area of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The multiple explosions were believed to have been set off by suicide bombers; the number of casualty is yet unknown.

2. Two civil societies group, the Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership and the Campaign for Democracy have reacted to allegations by the presidency that some groups were trying to disrupt the 2019 general elections.

The civil societies said the government before 2019 elections must reshuffle the military and other security agencies to bring in efficient hands, devoid of political and economic interests.

3. Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has said that Nigerians are passing through trials and tribulations.

In his Easter message to the people of the State and Nigerians, Gov Ayade, however, said the people should embrace God’s ever-new life.

4. The Federal Government has released a list of some of those who allegedly looted the nation’s treasury.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed in the list released at a press conference in Lagos on Friday, named Raymond Dokpesi, Sambo Dasuki and other members of the PDP as the looters.

5. Afenifere, Pan Yoruba socio-cultural group has lambasted the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government over the release of looters’ list which contained names of members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary, Yinka Odumakin, accused the Federal Government of spreading lies, propaganda and playing politics with the list.

6. Nigerians have reacted to the list of looters released by the federal government.

While some described it as a welcome development, others see it as a propaganda tool aimed at buying people’s heart ahead of the 2019 general elections.

7. President Muhammadu Buhari returned to Abuja on Friday, following a 2-day working visit to Lagos state, where he inaugurated some projects and also attended the 10th Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Colloquium.

Upon his return, Buhari went straight to the National Mosque Abuja where he performed the 2-Raka’at Juma’at prayer.

8. The member representing Lokoja/Kogi Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Umar Baba Jibril is dead.

Aged 58 years, Jibril, a three-time member of the house, died in the early hours of Friday in Abuja.

9. A former Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Mantu, has admitted that he helped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rig elections in the past.

Mantu made this confession during an interview on Hard Copy, a Channels Television programme.

He said he helped the party rig the elections by bribing officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as well as security agents.

10. Reno Omokri, former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan has criticized Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed over the looters’ list he released on Friday.

Omokri queried the absence of minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi and other APC top ranking officials on the list.
