1. The FCT Police Command on Friday, arrested popular rights activist and good governance advocate, Deji Adeyanju, for allegedly inciting civil unrest.

The arrest, which took place at the Unity Fountain Square in Abuja, was sequel to the insistence of members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) to continue with their daily sit-out protest for the unconditional release of their detained leader, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky.

2. The Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday turned down an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, seeking to seize the funds in 15 bank accounts linked to former First Lady, Patience Jonathan.

Justice Mojisola Olatoregun in his verdict threw out the ex parte application filed by the EFCC for the seizure of the funds, saying the funds were already subject of litigation before two other judges.

3. The police have revealed identities of 12 suspects involved in the last Thursday’s robbery in Offa, Kwara State.

Jimoh Moshood, the police spokesperson at Force Headquarters, on Friday released details of the arrests, including recovered exhibits such as weapons, phones, ipads and other items.

4. Rivers state High Court on Friday granted the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus leave to issue a writ of summons to the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed and the federal Government.

The state’s Chief Judge Justice A. I . Iyayi- Lamikanra, who presided, also granted that the defendants be served by substituted means all the originating processes together with accompanying processes in Thisday newspaper.

5. The Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, has appointed Mary Uduk as the acting Director-General of Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The Minister, in a letter dated 13th April, 2018, said Uduk’s appointment had become necessary to ensure effective regulation of the Capital Market. Her appointment will, subject to satisfactory performance, subsist until further notice.

6. Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu said, Friday, that Nigeria’s leaders over the years should be blamed and held responsible for the nation’s many problems associated with the nation’s diversity.

Ekweremadu also faulted the notion that the Nigeria’s diversity was the cause of her internal divisiveness and wrangling, just as he blamed Military incursion into the country’s politics for the seeds of discord and distortion of Nigeria’s federal structure.

7. President Muhammadu Buhari has assured parents of the school girls that were abducted from Government Girls’ Secondary School Chibok, Borno State, of their safe return.

The President called on the parents to keep their hopes alive on the return of their daughters, noting that the recovery of more than a 100 of the girls that were kidnapped through the Federal Government’s determined effort should give confidence that all “hope is not lost”.

8. Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, has demanded the resignation of the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, for asking the International Criminal Court not to escalate its investigation against the Boko Haram sect.

The group stated that Malami could not double as the country’s number one law officer and as Boko Haram defender.

9. A Nigerian, ThankGod Okoro, has been killed by police in South Africa.

Okoro, an indigene of Ogbaku, Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, was reportedly killed by a member of the South African Police Flying Squad at Hamburg, Florida West Rand in Johannesburg.

10. The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Friday held that the immediate past Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Adoke, SAN, could not be held liable for his roles in the Oil Processing Licence 245 transactions.

Justice Binta Nyako, while delivering the judgment in the suit filed by Adoke against the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, Abubakar Malami SAN, held that since Adoke only executed the lawful directives/approvals of the then President Goodluck Jonathan, the former minister was free of any liability for his roles in the deal.
