1. The Supreme Court of Nigeria on Friday dismissed a petition seeking to remove Bauchi State Governor, Mohammed A. Abubakar from Office.

In his ruling, the presiding Judge, Justice Utterle maintained among other things that one cannot bring pre-election matters after election.

2. President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to Nigeria. Buhari, who left the country’s shores on Tuesday, arrived Abuja Friday evening and was received by some members of his cabinet.

3. A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has stopped the All Progressives Congress, APC, Local Government Congress earlier scheduled for today, Saturday, May 12.

Justice Chiwendu Nwaogu gave the ruling in Port Harcourt on Friday after the Police quelled a riot by unknown persons within the court premises.

4. The party secretariat of Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was Friday evening set on fire by hoodlums.

It was gathered that the fire only affected the internal parts of the secretariat building, which is located at the Imo State University junction in Owerri.

5. The General Secretary, Christian Association of Nigeria, Dr. Musa Asake, is dead.

Asake died on Friday morning in Abuja after an illness, just two weeks after he led a nationwide protest called by CAN against the killing of Christians by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

6. The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has confirmed that it realized N8.4 billion from the sale of 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) applications.

JAMB records indicate that at the end of the two-month application window, it registered 1,662,763 candidates for the 2018 exam, less than the 1,718,425 candidates who registered for the exam within a month and two week period in 2017, indicating a 3.2 percent decrease.

7. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Friday closed its case in the trial of a former governor of Abia State, Orji Kalu, who is being prosecuted for an alleged fraud of N2.9bn.

Kalu was re-arraigned on October 31, 2016 by the EFCC on 34 counts of money laundering before Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court in Lagos.

8. Troops of the Nigerian Army on a clearance operation have clashed with gun-wielding bandits in the Numan area of Adamawa State, during which 10 of the attackers were killed.

It was gathered that during the exchange of gun fire which lasted for one hour, one bandit, identified as Adamu Umar, was also arrested and handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.

9. The tribal leaders of Benue have slammed the recent call by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai for a review of the state’s grazing law to accommodate killer herdsmen.

They warned that such call could further embolden the marauders to unleash more killings in states like Benue.

10. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has told former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, that his concerns over the party have been extensively addressed.

PDP noted that the party’s reforms and rebranding efforts have returned it to the much desired political platform ahead of the 2019 general election.
