1. A four-storey building, Friday collapsed in the Jabi area of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, killing two people instantly while many others were trapped within.
Report says the building collapsed because it was built with substandard materials.
2. President Muhammadu Buhari is scheduled to return to the country today after his 10-day vacation in London.
This was confirmed by the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.
3. A Kubwa Grade 1 Magistrate Court in Abuja on Friday granted bail to detained PremiumTimes’ reporter, Samuel Ogundipe.
After spending days in police custody, the reporter was secretly arraigned before the Magistrate, Abdulwahab Mohammed on Wednesday.
4. Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom on Friday said no amount of gang-up against him within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, would make him leave the party for another political party again.
Speaking on behalf of the governor on Friday, his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, told reporters in Makurdi that talks between Ortom and other governorship aspirants within the PDP were still ongoing.
5. The Joint Committee of the National Assembly on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has suspended deliberations on the N189 billion submitted to it by the Commission for the conduct of the 2019 elections, indefinitely.
The Committee Chairman, Suleiman Nazif, who announced the decision at the end of the panel’s meeting on Friday, assured that members of the committee would do the needful to ensure that the citizens emerged victorious at the end of the day.
6. Minister for Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, on Friday disclosed that the Third Mainland Bridge will be shut for repair at the end of this month.
Fashola stated this while speaking at an interactive session with members of the public at the City Hall in Lagos Island on Friday.
7. The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, has appointed former Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Chief Osita Chidoka, as his Special Adviser on Strategy and External Engagements.
A statement issued by PDP the National Publicity secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan on Friday in Abuja, said Chidoka’s appointment takes effect immediately.
8. The U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom, Samuel Brownback, has advised Nigerian political office holders, representatives of civil society and religious leaders to avoid amplifying ethno-religious tension in the country but to focus on peace-building.
Ambassador Brownback, who met with a group of religious leaders during his visit to Nigeria, commended increased inter-faith engagement and dialogue in Nigeria, but noted that the country can do more to protect citizens’ right to religious freedom.
9. Family members of a 22-year-old woman, identified simply as Barakat, are in distress after she was allegedly killed by an official of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency from the Lagos State Command.
It was learnt that Barakat was shot by one of the operatives during a raid on Alasia community in the Ajah area of the state where she lived.
10. The Nigeria Police Force said on Friday that it had deployed 1,500 personnel for Saturday’s (today) bye-election for Port Harcourt Constituency 3 State House of Assembly.
State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zaki Ahmed, who revealed this to newsmen in Port Harcourt, also promised that the police would ensure a violence-free exercise.
