1. A governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Lagos State, Michael Olawale-Cole, has left the party for the All Progressives Congress, APC. He said his decision was informed by the impressive performance of President Muhammadu Buhari and Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State.
2. The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Emmanuel Udom, has claimed that the people of the state will be angry with him if he keeps talking about his predecessor, Senator Godswill Akpabio. He said the people who gave him mandate to be governor were more important than a single individual, hence he cannot keep talking about Akpabio.
3. The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has said that all its presidential aspirants must sign an undertaking that they will abide by the outcome of its presidential primary slated for October 5 and 6. PDP also said that the aspirants would give a commitment to the party, that they would not defect to other political parties either before or after the primary.
4. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has explained that it ended the Continuous Voters’ Registration (CVR) on Friday because the commission needed ample time to effectively make some preparations ahead of the 2019 general elections, arguing that it gave Nigerians enough time to register.
5. Charles H Ellis III, the Bishop who oversees Greater Grace Temple in Detroit, Michigan, has apologised for touching Ariana Grande’s breast while on stage with her, during the funeral of Aretha Franklin. Ellis, while issuing the apology, said it was never his intention to handle the 25-year-old singer in an inappropriate manner.
6. Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has picked the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, expression of interest and nomination forms to contest the 2019 Benue State governorship election. The Governor, after picking the forms, thanked the leadership and members of the PDP for the opportunity given him to seek the party’s ticket for the coming election.
7. Former Acting Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Pastor Power Aginighan, is dead. He was involved in a fatal auto crash at the Bayelsa end of the East-West road. Aginighan died alongside his son, Tami, who was driving.
8. Three members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State House of Assembly, on Saturday dumped the party to join the Action Democratic Party (ADP). The defectors were: Hon. Debo Akanbi representing Ede North, Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim representing Iwoand Hon. Tajudeen Famuyide representing Ilesha West.
They were received at the ADP Secretariat by the state chairman of the party, Toye Akinola.
9. The Senator representing Zamfara Central, Kabiru Garba Marafa, has said that the All Progressives Congress, APC, should brace up for more defections and litigation over their decision to allow governors decide type of primaries at states’ level. The lawmaker said that there are a lot of negative repercussions awaiting the ruling patty. He also said that the party may lose some elected positions to the opposition parties as a result of the indirect primaries.
10. No fewer than 10,000 members of the All Progressives Congress APC, Saturday defected to the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Saghev Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. The decampees, who were led by Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals/NEPAD, Dr. Magdalyne Dura also vowed to stand with Ortom anywhere he goes.
