1. The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved next year’s budget proposal.
The approval was granted during Friday’s special FEC session presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa.
2. The Electoral Act Amendment Bill has again been turned down by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang, disclosed this to State House correspondents on Friday but refused to state Buhari’s reasons.
3. President Muhammadu Buhari has assented to the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) Amendment Act, to allow the institution to operate as all other universities in the country.
With the assent, graduates of the NOUN can now participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the Nigerian Law School.
4. The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has announced its decision to embark on an indefinite strike from Wednesday, December 12.
ASUP National Treasurer, Suleiman Usman, disclosed this while briefing reporters, shortly after the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Friday in Kaduna State.
5. The pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere has called for the replacement of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Mahmood Yakubu.
Afenifere expressed dissatisfaction with the INEC level of preparedness to conduct free, fair and credible elections in the country as 2019 draws nearer.
6. Nigerian popstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has disclosed that the National Youth Service Corp, NYSC, has cancelled his one-year orientation exercise.
Davido made this public in a comment on Instagram page, davidoofficial.
7. The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has stated there was no gang up against President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking through the Spokesman of the Atiku Campaign Organisation, Segun Sowunmi, Atiku dismissed the claim that there is a gang-up against Buhari, who is presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
8. The Spiritual Director of the Adoration Ministry, Enugu, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has revealed why he demanded money publicly from former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi and other politicians during annual harvest and bazaar celebration last weekend.
The Priest also fired back at those criticising him, adding that “God deserves money.”
9. Nigerian gay rights activist, Bisi Alimi, has slammed the presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), Oby Ezekwesili, over her stance on homosexuality.
Alimi said Ezekwesili cannot use religion to rule Nigeria.
10. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday charged the National Assembly to “save the nation’s democracy by immediately overriding” President Muhammadu Buhari’s refusal to sign the amendment of the Electoral Act.
PDP said the legislative action was imperative as the President’s decision was a “calculated attempt to hold the nation to ransom, inject crisis into the electoral process and ultimately scuttle the conduct of the 2019 general elections, seeing that there is no way he can win in a free and fair contest.”
