1. A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama, Abuja has granted bail to Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye currently being held in a police health facility in Abuja.
In a ruling on an application by the by his lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) Justice Yusuf Halilu granted bail to Melaye on health ground.
2. The Federal Government of Nigeria on Friday said the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, would be questioned when he returns from the United States.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, who disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents on Friday, said the government would investigate Atiku’s alleged role in the collapse of former Bank PHB.
3. The Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has issued a stern warning to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar over what it described as ‘frivolous pronouncements.’
The Islamic group, which was reacting to the declaration by Atiku that he will sell the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, if elected, blasted Atiku for reportedly saying he would enrich his friends if elected president.
4. National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, on Friday said that the fundamental issues of the party’s campaign were the pronouncements by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar to sell the Nigeria National Petroleum Comission (NNPC)
He lambasted Atiku for the idea, saying it was the same way they (PDP government) sold NITEL, NEPA, Nigerian Airways and other government agencies.
5. Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has described as ‘cock and bull story’, the allegation that he played a role in the collapse of Platinum Habib Bank, Bank PHB.
Atiku in a statement issued by Phrank Shaibu, his special assistant on public communication, challenged the federal government to either prove his alleged corrupt activities, or forever remain quiet.
6. Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, on Friday stated that corruption has been the major bane that has hindered the development of the country.
Osinbajo, who stated this at Ifon in Ose Local Government during his visit to Ondo State for the house to house campaign ahead of the forthcoming election, emphasized that it was only President Muhammadu Buhari that can fix the country.
7. The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) on Friday said Nigeria will join other countries of the world to experience total lunar eclipse on Monday, January 21.
Dr Felix Alle, the Head, Media and Public Communications of the agency, said lunar eclipse is one in which the moon appears darkened as it passes into the earth’s shadow.
8. Peter Obi, the running mate to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, on Friday said that his principal’s visit to Washington was not to prove any point to anyone.
Obi, speaking to reporters at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, noted that Atiku travelled to Washington DC because it was necessary for him to do so.
9. The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Uche Secondus, has called on the All Progressives Congress and members of what he described as a cabal in the Presidency, not to kill President Muhammadu Buhari with undue pressure.
He said that for selfish reasons, those he called power grabbers were putting undue pressure on the President even as he said there were enough indications that the President can no longer cope.
10. Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), has said they have uncovered a plan by the Federal Government to name Justice Tanko Mohammed as acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN.
The spokesperson of CUPP, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, said arrangements have been made to arrest the embattled CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen, next Tuesday.
