1. Chairman of the Independent Oil Marketers, Benue State branch, Chief Matthew Agbason, has been abducted by unknown gunmen in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State. The yet to be identified kidnappers are demanding for N15 million ransom from the family.
2. In furtherance of its claim that it brought down the missing Nigerian fighter jet, the Islamic Boko Haram sect has shown in a latest video the wreckage of the plane and the pilot, who was afterwards beheaded.
3. At least, 13 people, including a soldier, were killed in Lwa, Dum, Rachit and Dyang villages in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State in the early hours of Friday by some suspected Fulani herdsmen. Report says two more soldiers are currently missing.
4. Senate President, David Mark and former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Friday held separate closed-door meetings with former President, Olusegun Obasanjo. The meetings were held at Obasanjo’s Hilltop residence in Abeokuta. Both Mark and Tinubu declared that the issues discussed were about current happenings in the country.
5. The Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State has said it will not accept the proposed restructuring of the state chapter of the party in favour of the returnee Governor, Olusegun Mimiko. Addressing journalists on Friday in Akure, the state executive committee said it had gone to court to defend the interest of its members, who had worked so hard to keep the party in the shape that it is today.
6. About 117 Nigerian Army personnel, including 25 officers and 92 soldiers are facing a military court martial at the Headquarters of the 3rd Armoured Division of the Nigerian Army, Rukuba, Jos. Report says the military personnel, whose cases are being handled in batches, were earlier scheduled to appear before the General Court Martial at the Headquarters of the One Division, Kaduna, but were later taken to Jos for security reasons.
7. Senate President, David Mark, in his Sallah message, has urged Nigerians to embrace harmonious relationship with one another irrespective of their ethnic or religious affiliations.
8. Prominent Northern leaders have faulted the self appraisal of President Goodluck Jonathan in his Independence Day broadcast. They said the President failed by shielding away from prosecuting those that are slowing down the nation’s progress.
9. An AIT reporter, Amaechi Anakwe who was charged for defamation of character by controversial Assistant Inspector-General of Police in Charge of Zone 7, Abuja, Mbu, was yesterday set free after Mbu ordered the withdrawal of the case.
10. Former governor of Kwara State, Senator Bukola Saraki, has appealed to Nigerians to use the ongoing Sallah celebration to pray for the nation’s military men and other security personnel to conclude their fight against the insurgents on a successful note. He said the call was necessary considering the Chibok girls who are currently in Boko Haram enclave, and to ensure peace and security in the country.
