1. Report says an Appeal Court sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Friday threw out an appeal filed by the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ambassador Toyin Akeju, against a judgement of the Federal High Court, Osogbo due to lack of jurisdiction.
2. Many inmates were killed on Friday when soldiers attempted to quell a riot that broke out at the Kirikiri Medium Prison, Lagos. It was gathered that the prisoners were protesting against the seizure of a ceiling fan belonging to an inmate when soldiers were called in to stop the protest, resulting into the killing of some of the inmates.
3. The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has again blamed the All Progressives Congress (APC) of causing violence and at the same time working against the swearing-in of Mr. Ayodele Fayose. The party said the suit filed by the APC clearly showed a deliberate attempt to frustrate the take over.
4. President Goodluck Jonathan has increased the number of troops currently. fighting insurgents in Borno state from 15,000 to 20,000. The Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, disclosed this in a lecture delivered at a forum in London.
5. Ongoing report says former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has cautioned the All Progressives Congress against fielding former Vice-President, Abubakar Atiku as its flagbearer in the 2015 elections. Report says he gave the warning during Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to his residence in Abeokuta.
6. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday began the sale of its nomination and expression of interest forms to aspirants vying for elective positions under its platform. The sale of form is expected to end on October 30.
7. The Osun State Police Command has arrested a pastor, Clement Oyetunde, for allegedly burying a human skull behind his house, which he also uses as a church. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs. Folasade Odoro, disclosed this to journalists in Osogbo on Thursday while parading the suspect.
8. Cameroon’s President, Paul Biya has announced that 27 hostages, including 10 Chinese workers, held by suspected Boko Haram militants have been released. He disclosed that they were kidnapped in May and have been rescued successfully.
9. Nigeria will today face former champions, Sudan to keep its hope alive for the Morocco 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifiers. The match will hold in Khartoum.
10. President Jonathan’s visit to Edo State, Friday, almost got aborted at the Benin Airport when some hoodlums, numbering over 30 reportedly stormed the airport, chanting anti-Oshiomhole songs, while the governor, was at the airport to receive the President.
